앵커리지 갬벨(Gambell) 거리의 역사적 인 카스(Carrs) 매장이 폐쇄되면서 차량 이 없는 페어뷰(Fairview) 주민들은 식료 품이나 약국 이용에 큰 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이러한 상황에서 식품 안보와 의 약품 접근성을 보장하기 위한 임시 셔 틀 서비스가 오는 **7월 19일(토)**부터 시작된다.

이 셔틀은 앵커리지 시정부, NeighborWorks Alaska, BAC Transportation의 협 력으로 운영되며, 매주 토요일과 일요 일 오전 11시부터 오후 5시까지 무료로 운행된다. 페어뷰 주민들은 이 셔틀을 이용해 미드타운 지역의 Carrs 및 Fred Meyer 마트까지 왕복할 수 있다. 이 서 비스는 2025년 10월 27일까지 운영될 예정이며, **페어뷰 블록 파티(Fairview Block Party)**가 열리는 Dr. Etheldra Davis 초등학교 인근에서 첫 운행을 시 작한다.

라프랑스(Suzanne LaFrance) 시장은 “장기적인 해결책이 마련되기 전까지 식 료품점 접근성을 보장하기 위한 훌륭한 단기 대안”이라며 “이번 사업에 함 께한 파트너들과 시의회 의원들에게 감 사드린다. 이것이야말로 지방정부의 역 할”이라고 말했다.

노스 앵커리지 지역구의 다니엘 볼랜드 (Daniel Volland) 시의원은 “이번 셔틀은 정부가 시민의 필요에 민감하게 대응한 사례”라며 “도심에 사는 주민들도 건 강한 음식과 생명을 유지하는 약품에 접 근할 수 있어야 한다”고 강조했다.

페어뷰 커뮤니티 협의회 회장 제임스 손 턴(James Thornton)은 “우리는 걸어서 갈 수 있는 약국과 마트가 절실히 필요 하다”면서 “이번 셔틀은 단기적으로 주민들의 기본적인 필요를 충족시킬 수 있는 실질적 방안”이라고 평가했다.

BAC 트랜스포테이션의 제너럴 매니저 아담 스틸(Adam Steele)은 “25년 간의 여객 운송 경험을 이 중요한 프로젝트에 투입하게 되어 기쁘다”며 “우리의 핵 심 가치인 RAISE UP는 주민 참여와 서 비스 정신에 초점을 두고 있으며, 이번 파트너십을 통해 이를 실현하게 되어 자 랑스럽다”고 밝혔다.

NeighborWorks Alaska의 커뮤니티 참 여 및 대외협력 디렉터 린지 하이덕 (Lindsey Hajduk)은 “Peoples Carrs의 갑작스러운 폐쇄는 많은 가족들에게 큰 영향을 미쳤다”며 “페어뷰의 약 20% 가구는 자가용이 없어 도보나 보행 보조 기, 유모차, 장바구니를 끌며 위험한 고 속도로를 지나가는 것은 매우 어렵다. 이 셔틀이 단기적인 해결책이 되기를 바 란다”고 말했다.

이번 셔틀 서비스는 People Mover 버 스 노선 11번이 향후 식료품점과 약국 을 경유하도록 노선이 재조정되기 전까 지의 임시 조치이다. 노선 변경은 2025 년 10월 27일부터 적용되며, 이에 따라 페어뷰 주말 셔틀 서비스는 같은 날 종 료된다. 이 서비스는 앵커리지 시정부의 보조금으로 운영된다.

With the closure of the historic Carrs on Gambell, it is a major challenge for Fairview residents to get groceries or access a pharmacy without a vehicle. To help ensure food security and access to medicine for the whole neighborhood, a temporary shuttle service is kicking off this Saturday, July 19. Through a partnership between the Municipality, NeighborWorks Alaska, and BAC Transportation, a free weekend shuttle for the Fairview neighborhood will run to the Midtown Carrs and Fred Meyer grocery stores and back.

The free shuttle service will be offered on Saturdays and Sundays between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Service will begin Saturday, July 19, and run through October 27, 2025. The shuttle will begin service in time for the neighborhood’s Fairview Block Party celebration near the Dr. Etheldra Davis Elementary School.

“This is a great short-term solution to ensure Fairview residents have access to grocery stores while we work on a long-term strategy,” said Mayor LaFrance. “Thanks to all the partners and Assembly members who came together to make this work. This is what local government is all about.”

“This is an example of government being responsive to the needs of Anchorage residents,” said Daniel Volland, Assembly Member for North Anchorage. “It’s important that neighbors living in our urban core have access to healthy food and life-sustaining medications. My heartfelt thanks to Public Transit, NeighborWorks Alaska, and BAC Transportation for their partnership in making this happen.”

“The Fairview community appreciates the efforts to provide access to critical services,” said James Thornton, President of the Fairview Community Council. “We really need a pharmacy and a grocery store that people can walk to, but this option in the short term can help our neighbors meet their basic needs.”

We’re thrilled to collaborate and deliver meaningful, community-focused transportation solutions for the residents of Fairview.”

“The abrupt closure of the People’s Carriers has had big impacts on families,” said Lindsey Hajduk, Director of Community Engagement & External Affairs of NeighborWorks Alaska. “In Fairview, about one in five households do not own a private vehicle, so accessing what seem like nearby grocery stores in Midtown is actually difficult to reach along the dangerous highway, especially for someone walking, using mobility devices, carrying groceries, or with kids. We hope this shuttle provides some temporary relief for the community, while we continue to advance longer-term solutions led by the community.”

The shuttle is a temporary service until the People Mover Route 11 can be realigned to connect the Fairview neighborhood to a grocery store and pharmacy. People Mover is seeking public feedback right now to realign the route, which will come into effect on October 27, 2025, when the Fairview Weekend Shuttle will conclude. The Fairview Weekend Shuttle is supported by a grant from the Municipality of Anchorage.
