2025년 5월 10일 토요일, 앵커리지의 로믹 중학교가 활기찬 한국 문화 축제 의 장으로 변모했다. ‘Taste of Korea’ 라는 이름으로 열린 이번 문화 엑스포 는 한국과 아시아 전반의 음식, 전통 놀 이, 공예 체험, 그리고 라이브 공연을 통 해 알래스카 주민들에게 한국의 맛과 소 리, 그리고 전통의 아름다움을 생생하 게 전했다.

이번 행사는 지역 사회 중심의 문화 교 류 프로그램으로 마련되어, 가족 단위 방문객, 학생, 그리고 지역 주민들이 함 께 어우러져 한국 문화의 본질을 체험할 수 있는 상호작용적이고 축제 같은 분위 기 속에서 진행되었다. 방문객들은 불고 기(양념 소고기 구이)와 같은 인기 한국 요리를 맛보았으며, 해킹색과 비슷한 전 통놀이인 제기차기, 화살을 좁은 항아리 에 던져 넣는 투호 놀이도 배우고 체험 할 수 있었다.

가장 인기를 끈 체험 중 하나는 바로 한 복 입어보기였다. 다채롭고 우아한 전통 한국 의상을 입고 사진을 찍기 위해 긴 줄이 늘어섰고, 많은 이들이 한국 전통 의 아름다움을 직접 느끼는 기회를 가졌 다. 또한 한국식 부채 만들기와 같은 전 통 공예 체험도 마련되어, 아이들과 어 른들 모두가 교육적인 전시와 예술 부스 를 즐기며 문화에 대한 이해를 넓혔다. 행사 내내 음악과 춤 공연도 이어져, 참 가자들은 한국 전통 리듬과 이야기 속 으로 더욱 깊이 빠져들 수 있었다. 지글 지글 불고기 굽는 냄새와 북소리가 울 려 퍼지는 강당 안은 그야말로 열기로 가득했다.

한국의 대중문화, 음식, 역사에 대한 관 심이 전 세계적으로 높아지는 가운데, 이번과 같은 행사는 알래스카 내 문화 간 이해를 증진시키는 데 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 주최 측은 앞으로 이 축제를 더 확대해 많은 이들이 한국 전통의 즐 거움을 함께 나누기를 바라고 있다.

이번 행사는 IYF 앵커리지 지부에서 주 최했다. **IYF(국제청소년연합)**는 전 세계 청소년들의 정신적, 지적, 정서적 성장을 위한 활동에 헌신하는 국제 단 체이다.

Alaskans got a taste of something special on Saturday as Romig Middle School transformed into a vibrant celebration of Korean culture for the “Taste of Korea” festival. The cultural expo, held on May 10th, offered a rich blend of Korean and broader Asian cuisine, traditional games, crafts, and live performances that brought the sights, sounds, and flavors of Korea to Anchorage.

Organized as a community-centered cultural exchange, the “Taste of Korea” event welcomed families, students, and local residents to experience the essence of Korean heritage in an interactive and festive atmosphere. Attendees sampled beloved Korean dishes such as bulgogi (marinated grilled beef), learned how to play traditional Korean games like jegichagi—a Korean version of hacky sack—and tuho, a game where players throw ar- rows into a narrow-necked jar.

One of the most popular attractions was the opportunity to try on traditional hanbok, the colorful and elegant Korean attire, with many guests lining up to take photos in their new looks. Others got hands-on with cultural crafts like Korean fan-making, while children and adults alike enjoyed exploring booths filled with educational displays and art.

Throughout the afternoon, the event featured musical and dance performances, further immersing attendees in the rich rhythms and stories of Korean tradition. Whether it was the sizzling aroma of food stalls or the sound of Korean drums echoing through the halls, the energy was electric.

With a growing interest in Korean pop culture, cuisine, and history, events like “Taste of Korea” play an important role in fostering cross-cultural understanding in Alaska. Organizers hope to continue expanding the festival in future years and invite more people to share in the joy of Korean tradition. This event was hosted by IYF Anchorage. IYF (International Youth Fellowship) is dedicated to the spiritual, intellectual, and emotional growth of young people around the world.
