앵커리지(알래스카) – 1월 5일(월) 앵커 리지에 위치한 더 브리지(The Bridge)에 서 열린 오찬 행사에서 지역 및 국제 주 요 인사들이 한자리에 모여 알래스카 앵 커리지와 대한민국 부산 간 협력의 새로 운 장을 열었다.

이번 행사에서는 부산광역시 박형준 시장의 알래스카 방문을 계기로 양 도 시 간 우호 협정 체결이 주요 의제로 다뤄졌다. 앵커리지의 수잔 라프랑스 (Suzanne LaFrance) 시장은 관광, 문화, 교육, 지속 가능한 발전 분야에서 상호 협력을 약속하는 양해각서(MOU)에 서 명했다.

오찬 자리에서 양측 관계자들은 공동의 비전을 실질적인 성과로 연결하는 것의 중요성을 강조했다. 단순한 상징적 교류 를 넘어, 보다 체계적이고 효율적인 ‘ 기업형 협력 모델’로 발전시켜 프로젝 트를 신속하게 추진하는 방안에 대한 논 의도 이뤄졌다.

박형준 시장은 이번 방문 기간 중 마이 크 던리비(Mike Dunleavy) 알래스카 주 지사와도 면담을 가질 예정이며, 주 차 원의 협력과 경제 개발 기회에 대해 논 의할 것으로 알려졌다. 또한 부산 대표 단은 알래스카의 핵심 물류 거점인 돈 영 항(Don Young Port of Alaska)을 비롯 해 주요 물류 시설과 관광지를 시찰할 예정이다.

아울러 박 시장은 노움(Nome)을 방문해 북극 항로가 세계적 주목을 받는 가운데 전략적 중요성이 커지고 있는 노움 항만 에 대해서도 직접 살펴볼 계획이다. 오 찬에서는 알래스카 전반의 물류 환경과 북극·해양 인프라 분야에서의 협력 가 능성도 함께 논의됐다.

양 도시 지도자들은 관광 활성화, 교육 교류, 항공 네트워크, 신흥 산업 등 단 기간 내 가시적인 성과를 낼 수 있는 분 야로 협력을 확대하는 데 큰 관심을 보 였다. 세계적인 항만 도시인 부산과 물 류·항공 허브 역할을 하는 앵커리지는 상호 보완적인 강점을 지닌 협력 파트너 로 평가됐다.

또 다른 주요 논의 주제로는 한국 지방 정부 공무원들을 대상으로 한 현장 중 심 연수 및 문화 체험 프로그램인 ‘K- 투-H(Korea-to-Host) 프로그램’이 언 급됐다. 해당 프로그램은 양 지역 공공 부문 지도자 간 실질적인 협력과 상호 이해를 심화시키는 통로가 될 수 있다는 평가를 받았다.

라프랑스 시장은 이번 협정이 단순한 의 례적 행사가 아니라, 공동의 가치와 상 호 보완적 강점을 바탕으로 한 장기적 파트너십의 기반이라고 강조했다. 부산 측 관계자들도 이에 공감을 표하며 열린 대화와 지속적인 협력을 이어가겠다는 뜻을 밝혔다.

이번 오찬은 앵커리지와 부산이 경제 성 장, 문화 교류, 글로벌 연결성을 강화할 수 있는 구체적인 협력 사업을 지속적으 로 발굴해 나가겠다는 상호 약속과 함께 마무리됐다.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A luncheon hosted at The Bridge in Anchorage on Monday, January 5, brought together local and international leaders to mark a new chapter in cooperation between Anchorage and Busan, South Korea.

The event highlighted the signing of a friendship agreement between the two cities, as Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon visited Alaska to strengthen ties and explore opportunities for collaboration. Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance signed a memorandum of understanding reflecting a shared commitment to cooperation in tourism, culture, education, and sustainable development.

During the luncheon, officials emphasized the importance of turning shared vision into tangible results, including discussions on evolving the partnership beyond symbolic exchange into more structured, corporation-style collaboration models that can move projects forward efficiently.

As part of his visit, Mayor Park is expected to meet with Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy to further discuss statewide cooperation and economic development opportunities. The Busan delegation is also scheduled to tour the Don Young Port of Alaska, along with key logistics facilities and major tourism sites across the state.

In addition, Mayor Park is expected to travel to Nome to learn more about the Port of Nome and its growing strategic importance as Arctic shipping routes gain global attention. Discussions during the luncheon also touched on Alaska’s broader logistics landscape and the potential for collaboration in Arctic and maritime infrastructure. Leaders from both cities expressed interest in expanding cooperation into areas that can produce near-term results, such as tourism promotion, educational exchange, aviation networks, and emerging industries. Busan’s position as a major global port city and Anchorage’s role as a logistics and aviation hub were repeatedly cited as natural points of alignment.

Another key topic was the K-to-H (Korea-to-Host) program, which provides work-based training and cultural immersion opportunities for local government officials in South Korea. The program was discussed as a potential avenue for deepening practical collaboration and mutual understanding between public-sector leaders from both regions.

Mayor LaFrance noted that the agreement represents more than a ceremonial gesture, describing it as a foundation for a long-term partnership built on shared values and complementary strengths. Busan officials echoed that sentiment, emphasizing their desire for open dialogue and sustained cooperation.

The luncheon concluded with a commitment from both sides to continue discussions and identify concrete projects that can advance economic growth, cultural exchange, and global connectivity between Anchorage and Busan.
