지글지글 구워지는 고기 냄새, 깊은 맛 의 찌개, 그리고 달콤한 한국 전통 디저 트 향이 어우러지며 앵커리지의 성 안드 레아 김 성당이 5월 3일(토) 개최한 한 국 음식 바자회는 큰 호응을 얻었다. 김 이 모락모락 나는 찌개부터 갓 만든 김 밥, 다채로운 반찬, 그리고 풍성한 디저 트까지-정통 한국 가정식을 한자리에서 맛볼 수 있었던 이번 바자회는 특히 풍 성한 음식 종류로 주목을 받았다. 행사 장 한편에는 중고 물품을 저렴하게 구입 할 수 있는 벼룩시장 코너도 마련되어, 방문객들의 관심을 끌었다.

이번 바자회는 단순한 기금 모금 행사를 넘어, 지역 주민들과 한인 사회를 연결 하는 문화의 다리 역할을 했다. 지역 가 족, 친구, 그리고 음식 애호가들이 모여 활기차고 따뜻한 분위기 속에서 한국의 맛과 정, 공동체 정신을 경험했다.

성당의 자원봉사자들은 이번 행사를 위 해 수주 전부터 정성을 다해 준비에 나 섰다. 요리, 청소, 행사 준비, 서빙 등 다 양한 역할을 맡으며 시간을 아끼지 않았 다. 한 자원봉사자는 “사랑과 정성으로 준비한 행사였습니다. 맛있는 음식을 나 누며 저희 문화와 신앙 공동체에 초대하 고 싶었어요”라고 말했다.

행사장에는 돈까스, 김밥, 비빔밥, 불고 기, 해물파전, 짜장밥, 우거지 해장국 등 푸짐한 한식 요리들이 긴 테이블을 가득 채웠고, 신선하게 담근 반찬과 김치가 함께 제공되었다. 찹쌀도너츠와 호떡 같 은 한국식 디저트도 준비되어 방문객들 에게 달콤한 즐거움을 선사했다.

이처럼 음식을 중심으로 한 행사들은 공 동체를 하나로 묶고 서로에 대한 이해를 높이는 데 중요한 역할을 한다. 많은 방 문객들에게 이번 바자회는 새로운 미식 체험이자, 앵커리지 한인 커뮤니티와 따 뜻하게 연결되는 계기가 되었다.

서로 다른 사람들이 한자리에 모여 음식 을 나누고, 이야기를 나누며 웃음을 주 고받는 가운데, 이 행사를 준비한 자원 봉사자들에 대한 감사와 존경의 마음이 함께 전해졌다. 성 안드레아 김 성당의 한국 음식 바자회는 단순한 식사가 아 닌, 문화와 봉사, 공동체 정신을 나누는 축제였다.

The aroma of sizzling meats, savory stews, and sweet Korean desserts filled the air as St. Andrew Kim Parish in Anchorage hosted a Korean food bazaar on Saturday, May 3rd. The incredible variety of food on offer made this particular event stand out—from steaming hot stews and freshly made sushi rolls to colorful banchan side dishes and indulgent desserts, offering attendees an authentic taste of Korean home cooking. There was also a garage sale section where visitors could purchase personal and home items. The event drew families, friends, and food lovers from across the community, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere. More than just a fundraiser, the food bazaar served as a cultural bridge, introducing Alaskans to the flavors, hospitality, and communal spirit of Korean culture.

Volunteers from the parish came together to prepare for the event, donating their time and talents to cook, clean, organize, and serve. “It was a labor of love,” said one volunteer. “We wanted to share delicious food and invite people into our culture and faith community.”

Long tables were lined with a feast of options, including pork cutlet, kimbap, bibimbap, bulgogi, seafood pancake pajeon, black bean jjang rice, Ugeoji Haejang-guk(Cabbage Hangover Soup), and a variety of freshly made banchan and kimchi options. Home-made desserts like sweet rice donuts and hotteok(sweet pancakes) added a sweet note to the afternoon.

Events like this highlight food’s decisive role in building community and fostering understanding. For many first-time visitors, it was a culinary adventure and a warm invitation to connect with the Korean-American community in Anchorage.

As the dishes were passed and shared, so were stories, laughter, and a collective appreciation for the volunteers who made the event possible. St. Andrew Kim Parish’s Korean food bazaar was more than a meal—a celebration of culture, service, and community spirit.
