광복절(광복절, Gwangbokjeol)을 기념 하는 행사가 8월 16일 토요일 앵커리지 웬들러 중학교에서 열렸다. 이번 행사는 앵커리지 한인회가 주최했으며, 1945년 한국이 일본의 식민 지배로부터 해방된 지 80주년을 기념하는 뜻깊은 자리였다. 이는 민족 주권을 회복하고 독립의 길 을 연 역사적 순간을 되새기는 의미 있 는 행사였다.

기념사를 전한 주요 인사들

이날 행사에는 여러 주요 인사들이 참석 해 기념사를 전했다. 앵커리지 시장 수 잔 라프랑스(Suzanne LaFrance) 사무국 의 대외협력관 마리 후사(Marie Husa)는 광복절의 의미와 알래스카 내 한인 사회 에 주는 중요성을 강조하는 메시지를 전 달했다. 주앵커리지 대한민국 총영사관 박중석 총영사 역시 연설에 나서며 한 국과 미국 간의 연대와 협력의 중요성을 강조했다. 이어 앵커리지 한인회 권앤드 류 회장은 참석자들에게 자긍심과 격려 의 메시지를 전하며, 알래스카 사회 전 반에 걸쳐 지속적으로 기여하는 한인사 회의 역할을 강조했다.

문화 공연과 태권도 시범

축제 분위기를 더하기 위해 챔프 태권도 (Champ Taekwondo)가 역동적인 태권 도 시범을 선보여 관객들의 큰 호응을 얻었다. 이번 공연은 한국 문화의 유산 을 보여주는 자리로, 규율과 예술성, 그 리고 민족적 자부심이 조화를 이룬 무 대였다.

스포츠와 지역사회 참여

광복절을 기념하는 전통에 따라 앵커리 지 한인회는 다양한 스포츠 활동을 마련 했다. 올해는 특히 피클볼(Pickleball) 토 너먼트가 열려 남녀노소 누구나 참여할 수 있는 친선 경기를 통해 지역사회의 화합과 친목을 다졌다.

경품 추첨과 항공권 상품

행사의 마지막은 경품 추첨으로 이어져 큰 즐거움을 더했다. 특히 알래스카 항 공권 500달러권이 경품의 하이라이트 로 등장해 참가자들의 뜨거운 환호를 받 았다.

하나됨과 기억의 날

이번 앵커리지 광복절 기념 행사는 단순 한 문화 행사를 넘어, 하나됨과 기억, 그 리고 희망의 날로 자리매김했다. 연설과 공연, 스포츠, 그리고 공동체 정신을 통 해 한국의 역사를 기리고, 알래스카 한 인사회의 활력과 굳건한 정신을 함께 축 하하는 뜻깊은 시간이 되었다.

Korea Liberation Day, known in Korean as Gwangbokjeol, was celebrated in Anchorage on Saturday, August 16th at Wendler Middle School. The event, hosted by the Korean American Community of Anchorage, marked the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule in 1945, a historic moment that restored national sovereignty and paved the way for Korea’s independence.

Distinguished Speakers Honor the Day

The celebration featured remarks from several distinguished guests. Marie Husa, Constituent Relations Director for Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance, delivered a message recognizing the significance of Liberation Day and its meaning for Korean Americans in Alaska. Consul & Head of the Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Anchorage, Joongsuk Park, also spoke, emphasizing the importance of unity between Korea and the United States. Andrew Kwon, President of the Korean American Community of Anchorage, addressed attendees with words of pride and encouragement, highlighting the continued contributions of the Korean community to the broader Alaskan society.

Cultural Performances and Martial Arts

Adding to the festive spirit, Champ Taekwondo performed a dynamic martial arts demonstration that thrilled the audience. The performance served as a reminder of Korea’s cultural heritage, blending discipline, artistry, and national pride.

Sports and Community Engagement

In keeping with tradition, the Korean American Community of Anchorage organized sports activities to commemorate Liberation Day. This year, attendees enjoyed a pickleball tournament, which brought together community members of all ages for friendly competition and camaraderie.

Raffle and Grand Prize

The event concluded with raffle prizes, building excitement among participants. The highlight of the raffle was the grand prize — a $500 Alaska Airlines ticket — which drew enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.

A Day of Unity and Remembrance

The Korea Liberation Day celebration in Anchorage was more than a cultural gathering; it was a day of unity, remembrance, and hope. Through speeches, performances, sports, and community spirit, the event honored Korea’s history while celebrating the vibrancy and resilience of the Korean American community in Alaska.
