앵커리지, 알래스카 -알래스카 전역의 지역사회에서 활동하는 50명의 예술가 들이 라스무손 재단(Rasmuson Foundation) 2025년 개인 예술가상(Individual Artist Award) 수상자로 선정돼 각 1만 달 러의 지원금을 받게 된다. 올해 수상자 들은 문학·각본, 전통·민속 예술, 음 악 작곡, 시각 예술 등 다양한 분야에서 작업하는 예술가들로 구성되어 있다.

프로젝트 지원금은 예술가의 성장과 창 작 활동에 기여하는 단기 프로젝트를 돕 기 위한 것으로, 경력 단계와 관계없이 누구나 신청할 수 있다. 올해 수상자 군 은 특히 알래스카 창작 경제의 성장세 를 반영하고 있는데, 수상자의 75%가 첫 수상자이며, 약 절반이 첫 신청자이 고, 대부분이 초기 또는 중견 단계의 예 술가들이다.

라스무손 재단의 그레첸 게스(Gretchen Guess) 회장 겸 CEO는 “우리 지역사 회를 연결하고 도전하게 하며 영감을 주 는 다양한 창작자들을 인정하게 되어 기 쁘다”며 “이누피악(Iñupiaq) 유아용 언어 학습서부터, 제2차 세계대전 당시 아닥(Adak)에 배치된 필리핀 군인들을 주제로 한 혼합매체 프로젝트, 알래스카 모피 산업의 역사와 영향을 탐구하는 조 각 작품까지-이 예술가들은 알래스카의 이야기를 전하고 미래를 만들어가고 있 다”고 말했다.

개인 예술가상(IAA) 프로그램은 매년 프 로젝트 지원과 펠로우십 지원을 번갈 아 운영하며, 매년 한 명에게 시상하 는 ‘저명 예술가상(Distinguished Artist Award)’도 포함된다. 수상자는 미국과 캐나다 전역에서 모인 16명의 심사위원 을 통해 선정된다.

2003년부터 이 프로그램은 알래스카 예 술가들의 경력 개발을 위해 650만 달 러 이상을 투자해왔다. 알래스카에 거주 하는 모든 경력 단계의 예술가들은 라 스무손 재단 홈페이지(Rasmuson.org)에 서 지원 가능 프로그램, 자격 요건, FAQ, 온라인 신청서를 확인할 수 있다. 수상 자는 다음 IAA에 재신청하기까지 3년을 기다려야 한다.

IAA는 알래스카 예술가들이 자신만의 예술적 성장을 위해 필요한 시간, 성찰, 몰입, 실험을 지원하기 위한 재원을 제 공한다. 이러한 투자가 알래스카 문화와 지역사회의 활력, 그리고 예술 그 자체 에 의미 있는 기여로 이어지는 것이 프 로그램의 목표다.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Fifty artists from communities across Alaska will receive a $10,000 grant as one of the Rasmuson Foundation 2025 Individual Artist Awardees. Artists working in disciplines from literary arts and scriptworks to folk and traditional arts, music composition, and visual arts are among this year’s recipients.

Project awards are designed to support short-term projects that contribute to an artist’s development and practice. While the awards are open to artists at any career stage, this year’s cohort reflects a rising tide in Alaska’s creative economy: 75% are first-time recipients, about half are first-time applicants, and most are in early or mid-career stages. “It’s a joy to recognize such a diverse group of creatives whose work helps connect, challenge, and inspire our communities,” said Gretchen Guess, Rasmuson Foundation president and CEO. “From an Iñupiaq language workbook for early learners, to a mixed-media project about Filipino World War II personnel stationed at Adak, to the creation of sculptures exploring the history and impact of the state’s fur trade, these artists are telling Alaska’s stories and shaping our future.”

The Individual Artist Awards (IAA) program alternates annually between project and fellowship awards and includes the Distinguished Artist Award, which is presented each year. Artists are selected by a group of 16 panelists from around the United States and Canada.

Since 2003, the program has invested more than $6.5 million in supporting the career development of Alaska artists. Artists living in Alaska at every career stage are encouraged to explore available grant opportunities at Rasmuson.org, where they can find program guidelines, eligibility criteria, FAQs and an online application. Awarded artists must wait three years before applying for a new Individual Artist Award.

IAA provides Alaska artists with funding to support the time, reflection, immersion, or experimentation beneficial to the development of their artistry. The intention is for these investments to result in substantial contributions to Alaska’s culture, the vibrancy of our communities, and to art itself.
