1992년부터 5월은 공법 102-450에 따 라 공식적으로 아시아계 미국인 태평 양 섬 주민 유산의 달로 지정되었다. 앵 커리지는 전국과 마찬가지로 2025년 5 월 4일 일요일에 이스트 고등학교에서 ” 영감의 밤”이라는 주제로 개막식을 열어 기념 행사를 시작했다.

매년 5월 한 달 동안 크고 작은 다양한 AAPI행사가 열린다. 하나 그 어느행사 도 보통 수천 명이 참석하는, 규모가 크 며 또 인기있는 지역 사회 전체의 축제 에 따라 오지 못한다.

알래스카 폴리네시아 협회가 주최하고 또 한국문화원, 알래스카 앵커리지 필리 핀 공동체, 그리고 알래스카 필리핀계 미국인 연합회가 공동 주최한 이 축제는 올해 5월 31일 다운타운 델라니 공원에 서 열렸다.

가끔 비가 올 것 같은 날씨였지만, 주최 측과 참가자 모두 굴하지 않고 기대와 설렘으로 행사를 위해 분주히 준비했다. 축제는 알래스카 군사 청소년 아카데미 의 근위병 행렬로 시작해서, 10개 국가 와 영토를 대표하는 문화 퍼레이드가 이 어졌고, 각 국가의 기수와 국기 게양대, 국가가 연주되었다.

특별 게스트로는 박중석 총영사, 에릭 코데로 던리비 주지사실, 카리나 월러 미국 상원의원 머코스키실, 엘비 잭슨 주 상원의원, 그리고 제네비브 미나 주 하원의원이 포함 되었다.

공연이 계속되면서 통가, 필리핀, 사모 아, 한국 등 다양한 문화의

20개 공연단이 펼치는 생동감 넘치는 이채로운 공연은 환호하는 관중들을 즐 겁게 하였다.

한국 공연 으로는 엘리자베스 유(태권 도), 워렌과 샤넬 킴(어린이날 노래), 레 베카 패로(K팝) 또한 열렬한 환호와 박 수를 받았다.

그러는 동안 근처 텐트에서 풍기는 맛 있는 민족 음식의 향기가 모두의 배고픔 을 자극했고, 줄은 점점 더 길어졌다.

한편 KCC 텐트에서는 자원봉사자들이 썰고, 섞고, 굽고 뒤집어, 뜨거우며 바삭 바삭한 군침 도는 김치전을 손님들에게 서빙하며 분주하게 움직였다.

또한 많은 사람들이 한국 음식을 좋아 하고 김치볶음밥 같은 한국 요리를 집에 서도 만들어 먹는다고 말했다.

흩어진 소나기 때문에 일부 사람들은 몸 을 숨기기도 했지만, 군중은 움츠러들지 않고 축제 분위기를 만끽하기 위해 그 자리에 머물며 즐거움을 나누었다. 마치 초여름의 인사처럼 오후 내내 축 제는 활기로 가득하였다.

이행사는 많은 자원봉사자들의 노고가 엄청난 성공으로 이어졌다는 것을 우리 에게 보여주었고, 행사에 참석한 사람 들은 엄청난 단결감을 느끼며 마무리되 었다.

May is officially designated by Public Law 102-450 as Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month since 1992. Like the rest of the country, Anchorage kicked off its own celebration with an opening ceremony themed as “Inspiration Night” on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at East High School.

While many big and small celebrations take place throughout the month of May each year, nothing beats the community-wide festival, which is usually attended by thousands. The festival, hosted by the Polynesian Association of Alaska and co-hosted by the Korean Cultural Center, Filipino Community of Anchorage, Alaska, and the Alaska Federation of Filipino Americans, took place on May 31 this year at the downtown Delaney Park.

Even as the rainy weather threatened intermittently, organizers and participants alike were undeterred and busily prepared for the event with anticipation and excitement.

The festival started with the Alaska Military Youth Academy Color Guards, followed by the cultural parade representing 10 nations and territories with flag bearers, flag posting, and anthems for each.

Special guests included Joong Suk Park (the Consul General of the Republic of Korea), Erik Cordero (Governor Dunleavy’s Office), Karina Waller (US Senator Murkowski’s Office), Elvi Jackson (State Senator), and Genevieve Mina (State Representative).

Lively cultural performances by 20 diverse groups of Tongan, Filipino, Samoan, Korean, and more entertained the cheering crowd. Korean performances by Elizabeth Yu (Tae Kwon Do), Warren and Chanel Kim (Children’s Day Song), and Rebecca Farrow (K-Pop) also drew enthusiastic cheers and applause.

All the while, the aroma of delicious ethnic food from nearby tents was enticing everyone’s hungry appetite, and lines were getting longer by the minute. At the KCC tent, volunteers were busy, dicing, mixing, flipping, and serving customers with the hot, toasty, mouth-watering kimchi pancakes. Many customers acknowledged that they make Korean dishes at home, such as kimchi fried rice.

Although scattered showers prompted some people to take cover, the crowd didn’t flinch and was determined to stay put to enjoy the festivities of the season. It was as if the festival was greeting the early summer. It was clear that the hard work of many volunteers turned into a huge success, and the sense of togetherness was overwhelmingly felt by those who attended the event.
