1992년부터 5월은 공법 102-450에 따 라 공식적으로 아시아계 미국인 태평 양 섬 주민 유산의 달로 지정되었다. 앵 커리지는 전국과 마찬가지로 2025년 5 월 4일 일요일에 이스트 고등학교에서 ” 영감의 밤”이라는 주제로 개막식을 열 어 기념 행사를 시작했다. 이 행사는 알 래스카 폴리네시아 협회가 주최하고 한 국과 필리핀 커뮤니티의 공동 주최자들 이 지원했다.

개회 기도는 한인 열린문 장로 교회의 함성주 목사가 하였고, 이어서 티아라베 아 가 미국 애국가를, 워런과 샤넬 킴이 알래스카 애국가를 불렀다. 로저스 파크 초등학교의 형제 자매인 워런과 샤넬 킴 은 긴 가사를 수화로 암기하여 청중에게 깊은 인상을 남겼다.

수잔 라 프랑스 시장은 청중에게 따뜻한 인사를 전하며, AAPI 인구가 알래스카주 에 여러가지로 기여하고 있다는 점을 강 조했다. 이어서 박중석 대한민국 총영사 의 인사말이 이어졌다. 그는 우리 지역 사회에서 관찰한 활기차고 풍부한 다양 성을 지닌 굳건한 단결에 대해 구체적으 로 언급했으며, 모든 사람이 앵커리지를 아름다운 도시로 만들기 위해 긴밀히 협 력하고 있다고 강조했다.

행사 후반에는 지역 사회의 다양한 그룹 이 뛰어난 재능을 뽐내며 공연을 선보였 다. 가장 주목할 만한 찬양으로는 알래 스카 한인 장로교회의 김대규 목사와 동 양선교회의 바이올린 연주자 청소년팀 의 찬양이 있다.

특히, 그날 밤 공연의 시작을 알린 김대 규 목사의 공연은 의심할 여지 없이 강 력하고, 에너지 넘치고, 매혹적이었다. 청중 전체가 열광적인 박수와 몸짓에 동 참하면서 감동을 받고 영감을 받았다. 이행사는 많은 자원봉사자들의 노고가 엄청난 성공으로 이어졌다는 것을 우리 에게 보여주었고, 행사에 참석한 사람 들은 엄청난 단결감을 느끼며 마무리되 었다.

May is officially designated by Public Law 102-450 as Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month since 1992. Like the rest of the country, Anchorage kicked off its own celebration with an opening ceremony themed as “Inspiration Night” on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at East High School. The event was organized by the Polynesian Association of Alaska with the support of co-hosts from the Korean and Filipino communities.

The opening prayer was by pastor Sung Ham of Korean Open Door Presbyterian Church, followed by the USA Anthem by Princess Tialavea and the Alaska Anthem by Warran and Chanel Kim. Warran and Chanel Kim, brother and sister of Rogers Park Elementary School, impressed the audience with their memorization and sign language of the lengthy lyrics.

Mayor Suzanne La France addressed the audience with her heart-warming greetings, emphasizing the contributions our AAPI population makes to the state of Alaska. The greetings by Joong Suk Park, the Consul General of the Republic of Korea. He specifically remarked on the solid unity he observed in our community, which has vibrant and rich diversity, with everyone working closely together to make Anchorage a beautiful city.

In the later part of the evening, many diverse groups from the community delivered their performances of vast talent. A few of the most notable deliveries included those by Pastor David Kim of Alaska Korean Presbyterian Church and the Youth Team of violin players from the Oriental Mission Church. Particularly, pastor David Kim’s performance, which started the performance part of the night, was undoubtedly powerful, energetic, and mesmerizing. The entire audience was wooed and inspired as they joined in with their enthusiastic claps and body movements.

It was clear that the hard work of many volunteers made the event a huge success, and the sense of togetherness was overwhelmingly felt by those who attended.
