앵커리지, 알래스카 – 앵커리지 시 정부(Municipality of Anchorage), 에클 루트나 원주민 마을(Native Village of Eklutna·NVE), 마넬 게이밍 매니지먼트 (Marnell Gaming Management)가 YWCA 알래스카와 협력해, 태풍 할롱(Typhoon Halong)으로 인해 서부 알래스카에서 대 피해 앵커리지에 머무는 주민들을 지원 한다고 밝혔다. 이번 협력은 대피 주민 들이 호텔에서 준(準)영구 주거지로 이 동하는 과정에서 필요한 지원을 제공하 는 데 목적이 있다.

현재 앵커리지 전역 6개 호텔에는 서부 알래스카에서 대피한 600명 이상이 머 무르고 있다. 알래스카주는 이들이 고향 지역으로 복귀할 수 있을 때까지 임시 주거지로 이동할 수 있도록 지원하고 있 으며, 앵커리지 시정부는 주정부와 긴밀 히 협력해 가족들이 새로운 환경에 적응 하는 동안 필요한 도움을 받을 수 있도 록 하고 있다.

NVE는 대피 주민들의 안전 강화를 위 해 공공안전 활동을 확대하는 데 사용하 도록 2만5천 달러를 앵커리지 시정부에 기부했다. 마넬 게이밍 매니지먼트 역시 2만5천 달러를 기부해 YWCA 알래스카 가 서부 알래스카 출신 태풍 피해자들 과 지역 파트너 기관들을 대상으로 커뮤 니티 회의를 개최할 수 있도록 지원한 다. 이 회의들은 대응 현황을 점검하고, 서비스 공백을 파악하며, 대피한 개인과 가족들이 안전하고 환영받는 환경에서 필요한 지원을 받을 수 있도록 하는 데 목적이 있다.

또한 시정부는 대피 주민들이 교통 이 용에 어려움을 겪고 있다는 점을 확인 하고, 추가로 2만5천 달러의 보조금을 YWCA 알래스카에 지원해 기존 교통 자 원을 보완하는 셔틀 서비스 운영을 돕 고 있다.

수잔 라프랑스(Suzanne LaFrance) 앵 커리지 시장은 “앵커리지 시정부는 삶 의 터전을 잃은 알래스카 주민들이 다 시 일어설 수 있도록 지원하는 데 최선 을 다하고 있다”며 “파트너들의 관대 한 지원과 셔틀 서비스는 대피 가족들이 우리 지역사회에서 안전하고 환영받으 며 지낼 수 있도록 하는 데 큰 도움이 될 것”이라고 말했다.

YWCA 알래스카는 BAC 트랜스포테이 션과 협력해 1월 18일까지 금·토·일 요일에 셔틀을 운영하고 있다. 이 셔틀 은 모든 교통 수요를 충족할 수는 없지 만, 서로 다른 호텔에 머무는 가족들을 연결하고, 식료품점, 보건·사회복지 사 무소, 루삭 도서관, 약국 등 주요 시설에 접근할 수 있도록 돕는다. BAC 트랜스 포테이션은 이번 서비스를 위해 시간당 요금을 대폭 할인했다.

YWCA 알래스카의 제시 라보이(Jessie Lavoie) 최고경영자(CEO)는 “YWCA 알 래스카의 사명은 매일 알래스카 주민들 을 지원하고 힘을 북돋는 것”이라며 “태풍 할롱으로 인해 서비스 수요가 크게 증가한 가운데, 파트너들이 제공한 자원은 낯선 환경에 놓인 피해자들이 필 수 지원 체계와 연결될 수 있도록 하는 우리의 역량을 한층 강화할 것”이라고 밝혔다.

NVE의 애런 레겟(Aaron Leggett) 회장은 “앵커리지는 에클루트나 원주민 마을 의 전통적 터전 위에 자리하고 있다” 며 “고향을 떠나 우리 지역사회로 이 동한 알래스카 주민들을 돕고자 한다.

복구는 장기적인 과정이 될 것이며, 우 리 부족과 마넬 게이밍 매니지먼트는 태 풍 할롱으로 피해를 입은 이들을 지원할 추가적인 방법을 계속 모색할 것”이라 고 말했다.

마넬 게이밍 매니지먼트의 앤서니 마넬 (Anthony Marnell) CEO는 “NVE와의 협 력 초기부터 지역사회에 환원하려는 그 들의 강한 의지를 확인할 수 있었고, 이 는 우리 회사가 공유하는 가치이기도 하 다”며 “태풍 할롱으로 인한 비극을 접했을 때 우리의 질문은 단순했다. ‘ 우리는 어떻게 도울 수 있을까?’ 이번 지원을 통해 부족의 리더십을 따라 피 해 주민들을 돕게 되어 자랑스럽다”고 밝혔다.

Anchorage, AK — The Municipality of Anchorage, Native Village of Eklutna (NVE), and Marnell Gaming Management are partnering with YWCA Alaska to provide support for Typhoon Halong evacuees in Anchorage as they transition from hotels into semi-permanent housing.

There are over 600 people evacuated from Western Alaska living in 6 hotels across Anchorage. The State of Alaska is helping them move into housing until they can return to their home communities. The Municipality is working closely with the State to ensure families are supported as they adjust to living in Anchorage.

NVE is contributing $25,000 to the Municipality of Anchorage to support the security of evacuees through increased public safety efforts. Marnell Gaming Management is donating $25,000 to support YWCA Alaska in hosting community meetings with Western Alaska typhoon victims and partner organizations in Anchorage. These meetings will help assess ongoing response efforts, identify service gaps, and make sure displaced individuals and families are safe, supported, and welcomed. After learning that many of the evacuees were having trouble accessing transportation, the Municipality has directed an additional $25,000 grant to YWCA Alaska to fund a shuttle service to supplement existing transportation resources.

“The Municipality of Anchorage is committed to supporting our fellow Alaskans as they rebuild their lives,” said Mayor Suzanne LaFrance. “This generous funding from our partners and the shuttle service will help ensure displaced families are safe, supported, and welcomed while they are in our community.”

YWCA Alaska has partnered with BAC Transportation to run the shuttle on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through Jan. 18. While the shuttle won’t meet all transportation needs, it is connecting families staying in different hotel locations, and providing access to groceries, a health and social services office, the Loussac Library, and a pharmacy. BAC Transportation significantly discounted its hourly rate in order to provide this service.

“At YWCA Alaska, our mission is to support and uplift Alaskans every day, and Typhoon Halong has significantly increased the demand for services,” said YWCA Alaska CEO Jessie Lavoie. “The resources provided by our partners will strengthen our ability to connect storm victims with the essential support systems they need in an unfamiliar environment.”

“Anchorage is located on the traditional homelands of the Native Village of Eklutna,” said NVE President Aaron Leggett. “We want to help our fellow Alaskans who have been forced from their homes and relocated to our community. Recovery will be a long-term effort, and our Tribe and Marnell Gaming Management will continue to look for additional ways to support those impacted by Typhoon Halong.”

Marnell Gaming Management CEO Anthony Marnell added, “One of the first things that became clear early in our partnership with the Native Village of Eklutna was their strong commitment to giving back to the community — a value we wholeheartedly share. When we learned of the horrible tragedy caused by Typhoon Halong, our question was simple: ‘How can we help?’ We are proud to follow the Tribe’s leadership in supporting those impacted.”
