앵커리지, 알래스카 – 2026년 4월 1일, West Anchorage High School에서 연 례 행사인 ‘Multicultural Night(다문화의 밤)’가 개최되어 다양한 배경을 가진 학생들이 한자리에 모여 세계 각국의 문 화를 기념하는 시간을 가졌다.

이번 행사에서는 학생들이 직접 각 나 라를 대표하는 부스를 운영하며, 방문 객들에게 세계의 전통, 음식, 문화를 체 험할 수 있는 기회를 제공했다. 그중에 서도 한국인 학생 3명이 대한민국을 대 표해 참여하며, 한국 문화의 주요 요소 를 소개하는 흥미롭고 체험형 부스를 선 보였다.

비록 참여한 한국인 학생 수는 많지 않 았지만, 이들의 참여는 대한민국을 대표 한다는 강한 자부심을 보여주었으며, 소 수의 인원으로도 의미 있는 문화적 영향 력을 만들어낼 수 있음을 보여주었다.

학생들은 전통 한복을 입고 방문객들을 맞이했으며, 부스에서는 케이팝 음악과 함께 한국 쌀과자를 제공해 큰 인기를 끌었다. 또한 방문객들의 이름을 붓글씨 로 한글로 써주는 체험 활동도 진행되어 많은 관심을 받았다.

학생들은 스스로를 붓글씨 초보라고 소 개했지만, 한 사람 한 사람의 이름을 정 성스럽게 써 내려가며 진심 어린 경험을 선사했다.

부스에는 태극기가 함께 전시되어 한국 에 대한 자부심을 상징했으며, 전시의 완성도를 더욱 높였다. 이날 행사에서 학생들은 한국 문화를 소개하는 데 그치 지 않고, 또래 학생들과 지역사회에 한 국에 대한 이해와 관심을 높이는 데 기 여했다.

이처럼 Multicultural Night와 같은 행사는 문화적 다양성과 포용성을 증진하는 데 중요한 역할을 하며, 학생들이 자신의 문화적 정체성을 나누고 서로를 이해하 며 연결될 수 있는 의미 있는 기회를 제 공하고 있다.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — West Anchorage High School hosted its annual Multicultural Night on April 1, 2026, bringing together students from diverse backgrounds to celebrate cultures from around the world.

The event featured student-led booths representing various countries, offering attendees an opportunity to experience global traditions, food, and customs. Among the participants, three Korean students proudly represented South Korea, creating an engaging and interactive booth that highlighted key elements of Korean culture.

Although only a small number of Korean students participated, their presence reflected a strong sense of pride in representing South Korea, demonstrating that even a few individuals can make a meaningful cultural impact. Dressed in traditional hanbok, the students welcomed visitors with a vibrant display that included K-pop music and samples of Korean rice snacks, which quickly became a favorite among attendees. The booth also featured a hands-on cultural activity, where students wrote visitors’ names in Korean using brush calligraphy.

While the students described themselves as beginners in calligraphy, their dedication was evident as they carefully wrote each name with attention and care, creating a meaningful and personalized experience for each guest.

The booth was adorned with the Korean flag, symbolizing national pride and adding to the authenticity of the presentation. Throughout the evening, the students not only shared aspects of Korean culture but also fostered a deeper understanding and appreciation among their peers and the broader community.

Events like Multicultural Night continue to play an important role in promoting cultural awareness and inclusivity, giving students a platform to share their heritage and connect with others in meaningful ways.
