ANCHORAGE, Alaska (May 2, 2026) — The spirit of discipline, culture, and community was on full display on Saturday as the Great Alaska 12th Martial Arts Tournament & Festival took place at the University of Alaska Anchorage Avis Sports Complex. The event brought together martial artists, families, and spectators from across Alaska and beyond for a full day of competition and celebration.

The tournament opened with a vibrant and meaningful ceremony that set the tone for the day. Attendees were welcomed by a series of performances and presentations, including a powerful entrance by the Last Frontier Pipe & Drum Band, followed by a traditional lion dance performed by members of the Chinese Association. A parade of participants representing various schools and regions filled the arena, highlighting the diversity and unity within the martial arts community. The opening ceremony also featured a formal color guard presentation by the Youth Military Academy, adding a sense of honor and respect to the event. Community leaders took the stage to share words of encouragement, including Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance and Eugene Cho, Vice President of the Korean American Community of Anchorage. Both speakers emphasized the importance of youth development, cultural exchange, and community engagement through events like this.

Competitors traveled from as far as West Virginia, Kentucky, and Atlanta, joining participants from all across Alaska. 대회는 화려하고 의미 있는 개막식으로 시작되며 하루의 분위기를 이끌었다. 참석자들은 Last Frontier 파이프 & 드럼 밴드의 힘찬 연주로 환영을 받았으며, 이어 중국 협회(Chinese Association) 소속단원들의 전통 사자춤 공연이 이어졌다.다양한 학교와 지역을 대표하는 참가자들의 퍼레이드는 경기장을 가득 메우며무술 커뮤니티의 다양성과 화합을 보여주었다.

개막식에서는 Youth Military Academy의 정식 컬러가드 발표도 진행되어 행사에 엄숙함과 존중의 의미를 더했다. 또한앵커리지 시장 수잔 라프랑스(Suzanne LaFrance)와 앵커리지 한인회 부회장 유진 조(Eugene Cho)가 연설자로 나서참가자들을 격려했다. 두 연사는 이러한 행사를 통해 청소년 육성, 문화 교류, 그리고 지역사회 참여의 중요성을 강조했다.
