ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Korea-Alaska Friendship Festival brought together community members, local leaders, cultural performers, and families at the Dimond Center parking lot on Saturday, June 28, for a day celebrating friendship, culture, and unity between Korea and Alaska.

A highlight of the opening ceremony was the reading of the official Korea-Alaska Friendship Day proclamation, signed by Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy. The proclamation recognized the contributions of Alaska’s Korean community and honored the cultural, economic, and community ties that continue to strengthen the relationship between Korea and Alaska.

The event opened with a performance by the Eung Hwa Kim Dance Company, followed by an opening prayer, the singing of the national anthems, and the Alaska Flag Song. The official proclamation was read by John Crowther, Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources.

The festival welcomed remarks from the Korean American Community of Anchorage President, the Head of the Korean Consular Office, Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance, Alaska State Senator Forrest Dunbar, and Aves Thompson, President of the Korean War Veterans Association.

Throughout the day, attendees enjoyed a diverse lineup of cultural performances representing Korean, Alaska Native, Filipino, Hawaiian, African, martial arts, and wellness traditions. Performers included the Eung Hwa Kim Dance Company, CHAMP Martial Arts, Hiʻilei Aloha Dance Company, Alaska Federation of Filipino Americans, Upallret Traditional Yup’ik Dance Group, Oni ILu Drum Corps, and Tai Chi for Health Alaska.

The program also included an introduction of the organizing committee and a grand prize raffle drawing sponsored by Alaska Airlines.

Organizers said the festival was an opportunity to strengthen relationships among Alaska’s Korean community, local cultural organizations, public officials, and the broader Anchorage community. The event concluded with a closing performance by the Eung Hwa Kim Dance Company, bringing the celebration to a meaningful close.

앵커리지, 알래스카 – 한-알래스카 친선축제가 6월 28일 토요일 다이몬드센터 주차장에서 열려 지역 주민, 주요 인사, 문화 공연팀, 가족들이 함께 모여 한국과 알래스카 간의 우정, 문화, 화합을 기념했다. 

개막식의 주요 순서 중 하나는 마이크 던리비 알래스카 주지사가 서명한 공식 한-알래스카 친선의 날 선언문 낭독이었다. 이 선언문은 알래스카 한인사회의 공헌을 인정하고, 한국과 알래스카의 관계를 더욱 강화해 온 문화적, 경제적, 지역사회적 유대를 기리는 내용을 담았다.

행사는 김응화 무용단의 공연으로 시작됐으며, 이어 개식기도, 국가 제창, 알래스카 플래그송 제창이 진행됐다. 공식 선언문은 알래스카 천연자원부(DNR) 존 크라우더 커미셔너가 낭독했다.

이날 축제에서는 알래스카 한인회장, 주앵커리지 대한민국 영사출장소장, 수잔 라프랑스 앵커리지 시장, 포레스트 던바 알래스카 주 상원의원, 그리고 한국전 참전용사회 회장 에이브스 톰슨이 축사를 전했다.

행사 내내 참석자들은 한국, 알래스카 원주민, 필리핀, 하와이, 아프리카, 무술, 건강 문화 등을 대표하는 다양한 공연을 즐겼다. 공연팀으로는 김응화 무용단, 챔프태권도, 힐레이 알로하 댄스 컴퍼니, 알래스카 필리피노 연합회, 전통 유픽 댄스 그룹 우팔렛, 오니 일루 드럼 코어, 알래스카 건강 태극권 협회가 참여했다.

프로그램에는 운영진 소개와 한인신문이 후원한 대상 경품 추첨도 포함됐다.

주최 측은 이번 축제가 알래스카 한인사회와 지역 문화단체, 공직자, 그리고 앵커리지 지역사회 간의 관계를 더욱 강화하는 기회였다고 밝혔다. 행사는 김응화 무용단의 폐막 공연으로 뜻깊게 마무리됐다.
