The month of May is widely recognized in Korean culture as “Family Month,” a time dedicated to honoring children, parents, elders, and the importance of family unity. In celebration of this meaningful tradition, Korean Open Door Presbyterian Church has been hosting a series of family-centered events throughout the month under the theme “One Family in Christ.”

The church’s May theme focuses on strengthening relationships among church members while reflecting on the grace of unity through faith and fellowship. The church has organized multiple events throughout the month designed to bring together people of all ages in a welcoming and joyful environment.

On Saturday, May 17th, church members gathered for a special Family Day bowling night event filled with laughter, fellowship, and friendly competition. Families, children, parents, and seniors spent the evening enjoying time together outside the traditional church setting, creating memories and strengthening community bonds. The event highlighted the church’s emphasis on unity and intergenerational connection within the congregation. Throughout the month, the church has also recognized several important family-related celebrations. Earlier in May, the congregation celebrated Children’s Sunday on May 3rd and Parents’ Sunday on May 10th. The church plans to continue its Family Month activities with another themed family gathering scheduled for May 24th.

Church leaders shared that the purpose of the series is to encourage families to grow closer spiritually and emotionally while reminding members that the church community itself is also a family united through Christ. The Family Month includes “Rejoicing in the Grace of Unity,” reflecting the church’s goal of fostering love, encouragement, and togetherness among its members during the month of May.

5월은 한국 문화에서 흔히 “가정의 달”로 불리며, 어린이와 부모님, 어르 신을 공경하고 가족의 소중함과 화합의 의미를 되새기는 특별한 시기이다. 이 러한 뜻깊은 전통을 기념하며 Korean Open Door Presbyterian Church는 “주 안에서 하나된 가족”이라는 주제로 한 달 동안 가족 중심의 다양한 행사를 진 행하고 있다.

교회의 5월 주제는 믿음과 교제를 통 해 성도 간의 관계를 더욱 돈독히 하고, 하나됨의 은혜를 함께 나누는 데 초점 을 맞추고 있다. 이를 위해 남녀노소 모 든 세대가 함께 어울릴 수 있는 따뜻하 고 즐거운 분위기의 다양한 프로그램들 이 마련되었다.

지난 5월 17일 토요일에는 특별한 “패 밀리 데이” 볼링 나이트 행사가 열렸 다. 이날 교인들은 웃음과 교제, 그리고 친선 경쟁이 어우러진 즐거운 시간을 보 냈다. 가족들과 어린이들, 부모 세대와 어르신들까지 함께 모여 평소의 교회 공 간을 벗어나 교제하며 소중한 추억을 만 들었고, 공동체 안에서 더욱 가까워지는 시간을 가졌다. 이번 행사는 세대 간의 연결과 교회의 화합을 중요하게 여기는 교회의 비전을 잘 보여주었다.

교회는 이달 동안 여러 가족 관련 기념 행사들도 함께 진행하고 있다. 지난 5월 3일에는 어린이주일을, 5월 10일에는 어버이주일을 기념했으며, 오는 5월 24 일에는 또 다른 가족 테마 모임이 예정 되어 있다.

교회 관계자들은 이번 시리즈 행사의 목 적에 대해 “가족들이 영적으로나 정서 적으로 더욱 가까워질 수 있도록 돕고, 교회 공동체 역시 그리스도 안에서 하 나 된 가족임을 다시금 되새기기 위한 것”이라고 전했다.

이번 가정의 달 주제에는 “하나되게 하신 은혜를 누리는 5월(Rejoicing in the Grace of Unity)”이라는 메시지도 담겨 있으며, 이는 5월 한 달 동안 사랑과 격 려, 그리고 공동체의 화합을 나누고자 하는 교회의 바람을 반영하고 있다.
