아시안 알래스칸 문화센터(Asian Alaskan Cultural Center, AACC)는 2025년 5월 9 일, 앵커리지에서 성대한 ‘아시안 문화 의 밤(Asian Cultural Night)’ 행사를 성공 적으로 개최하며 아시안 문화를 예술 공 연을 통해 기념하고 발전시키는 사명을 다시 한번 실현했다. 이 행사는 **아시안 유산의 달(Asian Heritage Month)**의 시 작을 알리는 행사로, 한 달 동안 아시안 아메리칸의 역사와 문화, 그리고 지역 사 회에 기여한 바를 기리는 다양한 축제가 이어질 예정이다.

이날 무대에 오른 **루치카 인도 댄스 아카데미(Ruchika Indian Dance Academy)**는 전통과 민속 무용을 통해 관객 을 인도의 심장부로 이끌었다. 특히 인도 고전 무용 중 하나인 **카탁(Kathak)**을 중심으로 한 정교한 발놀림, 풍부한 손 짓, 우아하면서도 힘 있는 몸동작은 관객 을 사로잡았다. 이 고전 무용들은 신화와 헌신, 리듬이 어우러진 인도의 이야기 예 술 전통을 잘 보여주며, **타블라(tabla)** 와 **시타르(sitar)**와 같은 전통 악기의 연주와 함께 어우러져 현장을 뜨겁게 달 궜다.

이 잊을 수 없는 밤을 앞두고, AACC는 5 월 8일 앵커리지 교육청과 협력하여 **아 시안 문화 공연 체험 학습(Field Trip)**을 개최했다. 약 1,800명의 학생들이 참여한 이번 체험은 인도, 필리핀, 라오스, 중국, 한국, 태국, 일본, 네팔 등 아시아 여러 나 라의 문화 공연을 현장에서 관람하며 문 화적 다양성을 직접 경험할 수 있도록 했 다. AACC는 모든 학교 학생들이 재정적 제약 없이 참여할 수 있도록 버스 교통비 전액을 지원했다. 이번 체험의 목적은 아 시안 문화의 예술적 표현을 학생들에게 소개하고, 문화에 대한 깊은 이해와 존중 을 키우는 데 있다.

AACC 관계자는 “이러한 행사는 아시 안 문화의 아름다움과 독창성을 기념하 는 동시에, 학습과 상호 존중의 정신으로 사람들을 하나로 모읍니다. 커다란 성원 에 감사드리며, 앞으로도 의미 있는 문화 사업을 계속 이어가겠습니다”라고 소감 을 전했다.

이날 행사를 기획한 주최 측 역시 큰 만 족감을 나타냈다. AACC의 이사회 고문 인 닐 바르가바(Neil Bhargava)는 “참석 자들과 학생들의 얼굴에 비친 기쁨과 열 정은 문화적 대표성과 교육의 중요성을 다시금 상기시켜주었습니다. 아시안 유 산을 기리고 배울 수 있는 공간을 제공할 수 있어 영광입니다”라고 전했다.

앵커리지 교육청 역시 이번 체험 학습의 중요성을 강조했다. “단순한 공연을 넘 어, 학생들이 아시아 문화의 예술성과 역 사를 직접 체험할 수 있는 귀중한 기회였 습니다. 이 경험을 통해 학생들이 세계의 다양한 전통에 대한 관심과 존중을 키워 나가기를 기대합니다.”

또한 AACC는 이번 문화 축제 기간 동안 우수 고등학생 4명에게 장학금을 수여하 며 학업적 성취와 지역사회 봉사를 인정 했다. “우리는 학문과 문화적 성장을 동 시에 이루는 청소년들을 응원하며, 그들 의 미래를 함께 지원하게 되어 매우 자 랑스럽습니다”라고 AACC 관계자는 밝 혔다.

‘아시안 문화의 밤’과 ‘아시안 문화 공연 체험 학습’ 모두 관객과 학생들의 뜨거운 호응 속에 성공적으로 마무리되 었으며, 아시안 알래스칸 문화센터는 앞 으로도 알래스카 전역에 걸쳐 아시안 문 화를 기리고 나누는 풍성한 프로그램을 계속 선보일 예정이다.

The Asian Alaskan Cultural Center (AACC) proudly hosted a spectacular Asian Cultural Night on May 9, 2025, marking another milestone in the organization’s mission to celebrate and enhance Asian culture through artistic performances in Anchorage. The event launched Asian Heritage Month, kicking off a month-long celebration of the history, culture, and contributions of Asian Americans to the Asian Alaskan community.

The performances by Ruchika Indian Dance Academy transported the audience to the heart of India, with a masterful display of traditional and folk dances. The group showcased a dynamic repertoire of Indian classical dances, such as Kathak, mesmerizing spectators with intricate footwork, expressive hand gestures, and graceful yet powerful movements. These centuries-old dance forms exemplify India’s rich storytelling traditions, seamlessly intertwining devotion, mythology, and rhythmic precision. Their performances, accompanied by traditional Indian musical instruments like the tabla and sitar, created an electrifying atmosphere that had the audience clapping and moving along to the rhythm.

Leading up to this unforgettable night, AACC also collaborated with the Anchorage School District to organize an Asian cultural performance field trip on May 8, 2025. Approximately 1,800 students from across the district participated in this immersive experience, engaging with live performances representing Indian, Filipino, Lao, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Japanese, and Nepali heritages. To ensure accessibility and support student participation, AACC generously covered the costs of bus transportation, allowing students from various schools to attend without financial barriers. The field trip aimed to foster appreciation for the artistic expressions of Asian cultures and provide students with a meaningful cultural learning experience.

“These events not only celebrate the beauty and uniqueness of Asian cultures, but they also bring people together in a spirit of learning and mutual respect,” said an AACC representative. “We are thrilled by the overwhelming support and look forward to continuing these meaningful cultural initiatives.” Event organizers expressed their excitement at the success of both programs. Neil Bhargava, Board Advisor of AACC, shared, “Seeing the joy and enthusiasm on the faces of attendees and students reminded us why cultural representation and education are so important. We are honored to provide spaces where people can celebrate and learn about. Asian heritage.”

Similarly, the Anchorage School District Office of the Superintendent highlighted the significance of the field trip. “This was more than just a performance—it was an opportunity for young minds to explore the artistry and history of Asian cultures firsthand. We hope this experience inspires students to continue learning and appreciating global traditions.”

In addition to the cultural festivities, AACC recognized outstanding academic achievements by presenting four scholarships to graduating high school seniors. These scholarships were awarded based on academic excellence and community involvement. “We are proud to support young scholars as they continue their educational journeys,” said an AACC representative. “Their hard work and commitment to both academics and cultural enrichment exemplify the values we celebrate at AACC.”

With enthusiastic participation and positive feedback from attendees, both the Asian Cultural Night and the Anchorage School District Asian Cultural Performance field trip were resounding successes.
