앵커리지, 알래스카 – 앵커리지시는 2 월 28일 윌리엄 A. 이건 시빅 & 컨벤션 센터(William A. Egan Civic & Convention Center)에서 열린 “Meet the World” 행사에서 도시의 풍부한 문화적 다양 성을 기념했다. 이번 연례 문화 축제는 Bridge Builders of Anchorage가 주최했 으며, 도시 전역의 다양한 커뮤니티가 한자리에 모여 각자의 전통, 음식, 공연, 그리고 이야기를 나누는 뜻깊은 시간을 마련했다.

앵커리지는 미국에서도 가장 다양한 문 화적 배경을 가진 도시 중 하나로 알려 져 있으며, 이번 행사는 알래스카를 떠 나지 않고도 세계 여러 문화를 경험할 수 있는 기회를 시민들에게 제공했다.

컨벤션 센터 내부에는 다양한 국가와 문 화 단체를 대표하는 부스들이 설치되어 방문객들이 각 나라의 전통, 언어, 그리 고 지역 사회 활동에 대해 배울 수 있는 기회를 제공했다.

행사 당일 무대에서는 음악, 춤, 문화 시 연 등 다양한 라이브 공연이 이어졌다.

가족 단위 방문객들과 시민들은 활기찬 분위기 속에서 각 커뮤니티의 공연자들 이 전통 의상과 음악, 예술적 표현을 통 해 자신의 문화를 소개하는 모습을 즐 겼다.

공연뿐만 아니라 참석자들은 도시 내 다 양한 단체들과 교류하며 주민들에게 제 공되는 서비스와 프로그램에 대해서도 알아볼 수 있었다.

활발한 한인 사회 참여

올해 행사에서는 한인 커뮤니티의 활 발한 참여도 눈에 띄었다. 알래스카 한 국문화센터(Korean Cultural Center of Alaska)는 한인 커뮤니티의 참여를 조율 하고 한국 문화를 널리 소개하는 데 중 요한 역할을 했다.

특히 챔프 태권도(Champ Taekwondo) 학생들이 선보인 태권도 시범 공연은 큰 주목을 받았다. 학생들은 힘찬 발차기와 격파, 절도 있는 무술 동작을 선보이며 관객들의 뜨거운 박수를 받았다. 이 시 범은 한국의 대표적인 전통 무술인 태권 도를 소개하는 뜻깊은 시간이 되었다.

또한 한국 문화 전시와 커뮤니티 대표들 은 방문객들에게 한국의 전통과 앵커리 지 지역사회에서 한인들이 기여해 온 다 양한 활동에 대해 알리는 역할을 했다.

문화를 통한 지역사회 연결

“Meet the World”와 같은 행사는 앵 커리지의 다문화 정체성을 더욱 강화하 는 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 다양한 전 통을 함께 기념하는 이러한 축제는 서로 다른 배경을 가진 주민들 간의 이해와 존중을 높이는 데 기여한다.

앵커리지가 계속해서 국제적인 도시로 성장해 나가는 가운데, 주최 측은 이러 한 행사가 알래스카의 가장 큰 강점 중 하나가 바로 다양성임을 상기시켜 준다 고 말했다. 또한 서로의 문화를 배우고 이해하는 과정이 더 강하고 연결된 지역 사회를 만드는 데 중요한 열쇠라고 강 조했다.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The city of Anchorage celebrated its rich cultural diversity during the “Meet the World” event held on February 28 at the William A. Egan Civic & Convention Center. The annual cultural festival was hosted by Bridge Builders of Anchorage and brought together communities from across the city to share their traditions, food, performances, and stories. Anchorage is known for being one of the most diverse cities in the United States, and the event reflected that spirit by providing a space where residents could explore cultures from around the world without leaving Alaska. Booths representing various countries and cultural organizations filled the convention center, offering visitors opportunities to learn about different traditions, languages, and community initiatives.

Throughout the day, the stage featured live performances showcasing music, dance, and cultural demonstrations from many communities. Families and visitors enjoyed a lively atmosphere as performers took turns highlighting their heritage through traditional costumes, music, and artistic expression.

According to organizers, the goal of the event is to promote “a city without prejudice”—encouraging meaningful conversations, cultural understanding, and stronger relationships among Anchorage’s diverse communities. In addition to performances, attendees were able to connect with local organizations that provide support, services, and opportunities for residents across the city.

Strong Korean Participation

The Korean community played an active role in this year’s event. The Korean Cultural Center of Alaska helped lead many of the efforts to coordinate Korean participation and showcase Korean culture to the wider Anchorage community.

One of the highlights was an energetic Taekwondo demonstration by students from Champ Taekwondo, who impressed the audience with powerful kicks, board breaking, and disciplined martial arts techniques. The demonstration drew enthusiastic applause and served as an introduction to Korea’s traditional martial art. Korean cultural displays and community representatives also helped visitors learn more about Korea’s traditions and the contributions of Korean Americans within Anchorage.

Building Bridges Through Culture

Events like “Meet the World” continue to play an important role in strengthening Anchorage’s multicultural identity. By bringing people together to celebrate different traditions, the festival helps foster understanding and appreciation among residents from many backgrounds.
