매년 열리는 한-알래스카 우정의 날 행사가 올해도 성황리에 개최되었다. 6월 26일(목), 앵커리지 시내 중심부에 위치한 역사적인 캡틴 쿡 호텔에서 열린 이번 축제는 지역 한인 사회는 물론, 정치 지도자들과 다양한 후원자 및 지지자들을 한자리에 모았다. 이 행사는 1986년 앵커리지와 인천 간자매 도시 협정 체결 이후 수십 년간 이어져 온 한국과 알래스카 간의 문화 교류와 우정을 기념하는 뜻깊은 자리이다.

한-알래스카 우정의 날은 2008년 당시 알래스카 주지사였던 세라 페일린 (Sarah Palin)에 의해 제정되었다. 이는 앵커리지에 위치한 주한 총영사관 재개관을 기념하고, 한국과 알래스카 간 더욱 깊어지는 관계를 공식적으로 인정하
기 위해 만들어졌다.

올해 행사는 앵커리지 한인회(KACA)와 주앵커리지 대한민국 총영사관 직원들이 공동 주최했으며, 한국 전통 문화를
알리고 알래스카에서 점점 성장하고 있는 한인 커뮤니티의 존재감을 널리 알리는 자리였다. 행사장에서는 전통 음악
공연부터 경품 추첨까지 다채로운 프로그램이 펼쳐지며, 우정과 감사, 그리고 화합의 분위기로 가득했다. 이날 행사에는 앵커리지 시의원들, 주하원의원들, 앵커리지 시장 등 주요 정치 인사들이 참석해, 문화적 그리고 시민적 측면에서 한-알래스카 관계의 중요성을 강조했다. 총영사관 직원들과 한인회 관계자들은 축사를 통해 “서로 다른 문화를 이해
하고 공유하는 가치”의 중요성을 강조 하며, 두 공동체 간의 유대감을 재확인했다.

행사의 또 다른 하이라이트는 한인 사업 체들이 후원한 다양한 경품들이었다. 이를 통해 한인 경제가 앵커리지 지역 사
회와 얼마나 밀접하게 연결되어 있는지를 보여주었다. 특히 행사 마지막에는 관객들의 환호가 터져 나왔는데, 알
래스카 항공권 $500 상당의 상품권 2매가 추첨을 통해 행운의 주인공에게 전달되었다.

전통 한식, 한복 차림, 커뮤니티 간의 네트워킹이 어우러진 이번 축제는 단순한 기념 행사를 넘어, 공동의 미래를 향한
약속과 화합의 상징으로 자리매김했다. 참석자들은 “올해 행사를 통해 더 큰감동과 자부심을 느꼈다”며, 내년 행사
에 대한 기대감을 드러냈다.

The Korea-Alaska Friendship Day Celebration returned in full splendor this year, bringing together community members, political leaders, and supporters and sponsors on Thursday, June 26, at the historic Captain Cook Hotel in downtown Anchorage. The annual celebration commemorates the long-standing relationship between Alaska and South Korea, honoring decades of cultural exchange, friendship, and cooperation since the two regions formalized ties through the sister city agreement between Anchorage and Incheon in 1986.

Korea-Alaska Friendship Day was established in 2008 by then-Governor Sarah Palin. It was created to commemorate the reopening of the Korean Consular Office in Anchorage and to acknowledge the growing relationship between Korea and Alaska.

This year’s event was hosted by the Korean American Community of
Anchorage (KACA) in partnership with staff from the Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Anchorage, and served as a vibrant showcase of Korean heritage and its growing presence in
Alaska. From traditional music to prize raffles, the evening was filled with expressions of unity, gratitude, and celebration.

Local Korean families and leaders from across the city were joined by Anchorage Assembly members, state representatives, the Mayor of Anchorage, and other political figures, underscoring the importance of Korean-Alaskan relations both culturally and civically. During the event, consular staff and KACA leaders emphasized the significance of cross-cultural understanding and the shared values that
bind the two communities.

A key highlight of the evening was the generous support from local businesses that donated raffle prizes, demonstrating the close ties between Korean businesses and the broader Anchorage economy. The excitement peaked when two grand prizes—$500 Alaska Airlines gift certificates—were awarded
to lucky winners, drawing cheers and smiles from the crowd.

Delicious food, traditional attire, and community networking filled the evening with warmth and connection, reinforcing Korea-Alaska Friendship Day not just as a symbolic event, but a living testament to shared futures. As the festivities concluded, guests left inspired, with many already looking forward to next year’s celebration of friendship across cultures.
