앵커리지, 알래스카 -앵커리지 한인 회(Korean American Community of Anchorage, KACA)는 1월 8일(목) 호텔 캡틴 쿡(Hotel Captain Cook) 내 쿼터덱 (Quarter Deck)에서 자원봉사자 감사 만 찬(Volunteer Appreciation Banquet)을 개 최하고, 지난 한 해 동안 봉사와 헌신으 로 지역 사회를 이끌어 온 자원봉사자들 과 커뮤니티 리더, 후원사들을 한자리에 초청해 감사를 전했다.

이번 행사는 지난 1년간 한인 사회가 다 양한 문화·교육·시니어 프로그램을 운영하고 지원할 수 있도록 힘을 보탠 수많은 자원봉사자와 후원사들의 노고 를 기리기 위해 마련됐다.

한 해의 성과 돌아보다

이날 행사의 주요 하이라이트 중 하나는 앵커리지 한인회 장학금 프로그램이었 다. 해당 장학 프로그램은 지금까지 알 래스카 전역의 고등학교 졸업생들에게 약 50만 달러의 장학금을 지급해 왔으 며, 수혜 대상은 한인 학생에 국한되지 않고 모든 배경의 학생들에게 열려 있어 알래스카 전반의 교육 지원에 대한 한인 회의 폭넓은 헌신을 보여주고 있다.

참석자들은 또한 지난 한 해 동안 열린 주요 커뮤니티 행사들을 되돌아보는 시 간을 가졌다. 코리아-알래스카 우호의 날(Korea-Alaska Friendship Day), 8월 에 열린 광복절 기념 행사, 그리고 현재 도 지속적으로 운영 중인 한인 시니어 아카데미가 대표적인 예다. 시니어 아 카데미는 매년 10회의 정기 프로그램 을 통해 한인 어르신들에게 사회적 교 류, 교육, 신체 활동, 정서적 지지를 제공 하고 있다.

스포츠·건강·청소년 활동 조명

이날 만찬에서는 알래스카 한인 체육 협회(Alaska Korean American Sports Association)의 활동도 집중 조명됐다. 체 육협회는 족구, 축구, 농구, 피클볼, 배드 민턴, 탁구 등 다양한 스포츠 활동을 통 해 한인들의 건강 증진과 공동체 유대 강화를 이끌고 있으며, 연령에 관계없 이 누구나 참여할 수 있는 환경을 조성 해 왔다.

최근 몇 년간 체육협회는 알래스카를 대 표해 선수들을 전미 한인 체육대회에 파 견하며, 미 전역의 한인 사회와 교류를 확대하는 동시에 체력 단련과 팀워크의 중요성을 알리는 데도 기여해 왔다.

공로자 특별 시상

이날 저녁 행사에서는 앵커리지 한인 사 회에 오랜 기간 헌신해 온 인사들에게 특별 감사패가 전달됐다.

송종하 전 앵커리지 한인회 부회장은 다 년간의 리더십과 봉사 공로를 인정받아 수상의 영예를 안았다.

한미영 앵커리지 한글학교 교장은 차세 대에게 한국어와 문화를 전승하는 데 기 여한 공로로 감사패를 받았다.

이미양 한글학교 교사는 오랜 기간 열 정적인 교육 활동과 학생·가정에 대한 헌신을 인정받아 시상됐다.

공동체의 힘 재확인

이번 자원봉사자 감사 만찬은 지난 한 해의 성과를 기념하는 자리이자, 공동 체 협력의 중요성을 다시 한 번 되새기 는 계기가 됐다. 참석자들은 한인회의 문화 보존, 교육 지원, 세대 간 교류, 시 민 참여라는 사명을 꾸준히 뒷받침해 온 자원봉사자와 후원사들에게 깊은 감사 를 전했다.

앵커리지 한인회는 앞으로도 다양한 프 로그램과 행사를 이어갈 계획이며, 커뮤 니티 리더들은 “자원봉사와 참여가 모 든 활동의 근간”이라고 강조했다.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Korean American Community of Anchorage (KACA) hosted its Volunteer Appreciation Banquet on Thursday, January 8, at the Quarter Deck inside Hotel Captain Cook, bringing together volunteers, community leaders, and sponsors to celebrate a year of service, culture, and community impact.

The event was held to recognize the many volunteers and sponsors whose dedication made it possible for the Korean American community to host and support numerous cultural, educational, and senior-focused programs throughout the past year.

Celebrating a Year of Community Impact

One of the evening’s major highlights was the annual scholarship program, hosted by the Korean American Community of Anchorage. Over the years, the program has awarded approximately $500,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors across Alaska. Notably, the scholarships are open to students of all backgrounds—not only Korean Americans—reflecting the organization’s broader commitment to supporting education statewide.

Guests also reflected on several major community events from the past year, including the Korea–Alaska Friendship Day, the Korea Liberation Day celebration held in August, and the ongoing Korean Senior Academy program. The Senior Academy hosts 10 sessions each year, providing Korean seniors with opportunities for social connection, education, physical activity, and emotional support.

Recognizing Sports, Wellness, and Youth Engagement

The banquet also highlighted the work of the Alaska Korean American Sports Association, which plays a key role in promoting health, wellness, and community bonding through sports. The association organizes and supports activities such as jokgu (Korean foot volleyball), soccer, basketball, pickleball, badminton, and table tennis, providing inclusive opportunities for participants of all ages.

In recent years, the organization has also helped send Alaska-based athletes to national Korean American sports competitions, strengthening ties with Korean communities across the United States while encouraging physical fitness and teamwork.

Special Awards Presented

As part of the evening program, special appreciation awards were presented to individuals who have made lasting contributions to the Korean American community in Anchorage: Song Jong-ha, former Vice President of the Korean American Community of Anchorage, was honored for years of leadership and service.

Han Mi-young, Principal of the Anchorage Korean Language School, was recognized for her long-standing dedication to preserving the Korean language and culture among younger generations.

Lee Mi-yang, a Korean language teacher, received recognition for her years of passionate teaching and commitment to students and families.

The Volunteer Appreciation Banquet served as both a celebration of the past year and a reminder of the strength of community collaboration. Attendees expressed gratitude for the volunteers and sponsors who continue to support KACA’s mission of cultural preservation, education, intergenerational connection, and civic engagement.

As the Korean American Community of Anchorage looks ahead to another year of programs and events, leaders emphasized that community involvement remains the foundation of everything they do.
