제23회 앵커리지 한인회 장학금 수여식이 5월 9일 목요일 저녁, 루삭 도서관 내 윌다 마스턴 극장에서 성대하게 열렸다. 이번 행 사는 고등학교를 졸업하는 알래스카 전역 의 13명의 학생들에게 장학금을 수여하며, 알래스카 청년들의 고등 교육 진학을 꾸준 히 응원해온 한인 커뮤니티의 자랑스러운 전통을 이어갔다.

앵커리지 한인회(KACA)가 주최한 이 장학 금 행사는 20여 년 전, 한인 청소년들의 꿈 을 응원하고자 시작된 이래 이제는 모든 알래스카 학생들에게 열려 있는 행사로 발 전했다. 비록 한인 커뮤니티에서 주관하고 있지만, 장학금 신청은 모든 배경을 가진 학생들에게 열려 있으며, 알래스카 내 한인 교회들, 지역 비즈니스, 단체, 개인 후원자 들이 차세대 리더들을 위한 투자라는 믿음 아래 기금을 마련하고 있다.

행사는 서재범 목사의 개회 기도로 시작 되었으며, 앵커리지 한인회 이사장 박종호, 앵커리지 교육위원회 위원장 앤디 홀리먼, 주앵커리지 대한민국 총영사관 한란영 부 총영사, 그리고 앵커리지 한인회 회장 권앤 디 등의 축사와 격려의 말씀으로 이어졌다.

·정시현 (CMS 재단 장학금)

·정자윤 (동양선교교회 & 찰스 정 장학금)

·김하영 (Complete Painting Service 장학 금)

·박준 조슈아 (할렐루야 재단 장학금) 각 장학금은 $1,000에서 $3,000 사이로 수 여되었으며, 수상자들은 학업 성취뿐 아니 라 리더십, 지역사회 봉사, 미래 성장 가능 성 등을 기준으로 선정되었다.

이날 행사는 진심 어린 축사와 음악 공연, 졸업생들과 가족들을 위한 격려의 메시지 로 가득 찼다. 동시에 알래스카 내에서 점 차 그 영향력을 넓혀가고 있는 한인 커뮤 니티의 위상을 알리는 뜻깊은 자리이기도 했다.

행사 말미에 관계자들은 이 장학 사업이 계속해서 이어지도록 더 많은 커뮤니티 구 성원과 단체들의 참여를 부탁했다. 한 발표 자는 “이 장학금은 단순한 금전적 지원이 아닙니다. 이는 우리의 청년들에게 보내는 메시지입니다. 우리는 여러분을 믿습니다” 라고 전했다.

The 23rd Annual Korean American Community Scholarship Day was held on Thursday evening at the Wilda Marston Theatre in the Loussac Library, continuing a proud tradition of supporting Alaskan youth in their pursuit of higher education. The event, hosted by the Korean American Community of Anchorage (KACA), awarded 13 graduating high school seniors from across the state.

What began over two decades ago as a way to invest in the dreams of Korean American youth has grown into a statewide event open to all Alaskans. Though organized by the Korean American community, the scholarship program welcomes students from all backgrounds and is generously funded by Korean churches, local businesses, organizations, and individuals who believe in investing in the next generation of leaders. The event starts with an invocation by Reverend Jaebum Seo and brings together words of encouragement from speakers Chong Park, the Chair of AKC, Andy Holleman, the ASD School Board President, Ran Young Han, the Vice Consul, and Korean American Community of Anchorage President Andy Kwon. This year’s scholarship recipients include:

· Wooju Jung, awarded by Christian Reformed Church

· David Kim, awarded by Onnuri Church of Anchorage

· Mingeon Joo, awarded by Korean Senior Association of Anchorage

· Alice Hyoeun Kim, awarded by Open Door Presbyterian Church

· Yunseo Keum, awarded by Korean Cultural Center Alaska

· Grace Sol Lee, awarded by St. Andrew Kim Korean Catholic Church

· Ethan Saephan, awarded by Korean Language School

· Sung Min Yoon, awarded by Peaceful Unification Advisory Council

· Si Hyun Chung, awarded by CMS Foundation

· Jayun Jung, awarded by Oriental Mission Church & Charles Chong

· Maggie Yeaheun Cothron, awarded by Hojin Park, CPA

· Hayoung Kim, awarded by Complete Painting Service

· Joshua Joon Pak, awarded by Hallelujah Foundation

Each scholarship ranged from $1,000 to $3,000, with awardees recognized not only for academic achievement but also for their leadership, community involvement, and potential for future success. The event featured heartfelt speeches, musical performances, and words of encouragement for the graduates and their families. It also served as a celebration of the growing impact of the Korean American community in Alaska, one that honors its heritage while contributing meaningfully to the broader society.

As the evening concluded, organizers emphasized their hope that more community members and organizations will continue to support this annual effort. “These scholarships are more than just money,” one presenter shared. “They’re a message to our youth: We believe in you.”
