알래스카 한인 노인회(회장 최규재)는 2026년 3월 20일 오전 11시, 한인회관 에서 노인대학 개강식을 갖고 새 학기의 힘찬 출발을 알렸다.

이날 개강식은 화창한 날씨 속에 많은 어르신들이 참석한 가운데 따뜻하고 활 기찬 분위기 속에서 진행됐다. 최규재 노인회장은 인사말에서 “오늘은 날씨 가 아주 좋아 기분이 좋다”며 “옛날 에는 말을 잘 했는데 지금은 나이가 들 어 그렇지 않다”고 유머와 함께 참석 자들의 웃음과 박수를 자아내며 개강식 을 알렸다.

개강식은 최 회장의 사회로 시작되어, 하나교회 박호진 목사의 개식기도로 이 어졌다. 박 목사는 “첫 노인대학 개강 에 인사드릴 수 있는 귀한 자리에 불러 주셔서 감사하다”며 “우리를 창조해 주신 하나님 아버지께 감사드리고, 추운 날씨에도 불구하고 참석한 어르신들 모 두에게 귀하고 복된 하루가 되기를 기도 한다”며 개식기도를 대신했다.

이어 박중석 영사출장소장은 축사를 통 해 “2026년 알래스카 한인 노인대학 첫 개강을 축하할 수 있게 되어 감사하 다”며 “제26대 최규재 회장을 중심으 로 노인대학이 더욱 활성화되고, 어르신 들께 유익하고 행복한 시간이 되기를 바 란다”고 말했다.

또한 96세의 김용권 참전용사는 “건 강이 최고”라며 “모두가 건강하기를 바란다”는 짧지만 깊은 울림의 인사말 을 전했다.

계속해서 백점숙 한인회장은 축사를 통 해 “구세군교회에서 노인대학 문학 강 좌를 했던 과거 기억이 떠오른다”며 “96세에 시인이 된 일본 시인 도요 시 바타를 언급하면서, 어르신들께서도 꿈 을 가지시고 매달 노인대학에서 만나기 를 바란다며 한인회 역시 힘닿는 한 적극 지원하겠다”고 말했다.

이날 마지막 순서로 진행된 박호진 목사 의 강의는 큰 호응을 얻었다. 박 목사는 “출애굽기에 모세가 80세에 사명을 시 작했다”며 “어르신들께서도 ‘지금 부터 시작’이라는 마음으로 인생을 아 름답게 마무리하시길 바란다”고 전했 다. 이어 “젊은 사람들이 무시하면 ‘ 너 늙어봤냐? 나는 젊어봤다’라고 당 당하게 말하라”는 유머로 현장을 웃음 바다로 만들었다.

강의 후에는 노인회장 최애기사모님을 비롯한 여러분들의 정성껏 준비한 점심 식사가 제공되었으며, 참석자들은 긴 알 래스카 겨울을 어떻게 지냈는지 서로 안 부를 나누며 화기애애한 시간을 보냈다.

이어진 경품 추첨에서는 쌀 한 가마니가 제공되어 기쁨을 더했다. 참석자들은 “ 다음 달 17일에 다시 만나자”는 인사 를 나누며 가벼운 발걸음으로 개강식 일 정을 마무리했다.

The Alaska Korean Senior Association (President: Kyujae Choi) held the opening ceremony for its Senior College on March 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Korean Community Center, marking a vibrant start to the new academic term.

The event took place under clear, pleasant weather, with many seniors in attendance, creating a warm and lively atmosphere. In his welcoming remarks, President Choi shared with a smile, “The weather is so nice today, it puts me in a great mood,” adding humorously, “I used to be a good speaker, but age has caught up with me.” His lighthearted comment drew laughter and applause from the audience.

The ceremony began under President Choi’s emceeing and continued with an opening prayer by Pastor Hojin Park of Hana Church. Pastor Park expressed gratitude, saying, “I am thankful to be invited to such a meaningful occasion for the first Senior College opening.” He continued, “We thank God our Creator, and we pray that all the seniors who gathered here despite the cold weather will have a blessed, joyful, and meaningful day.”

Consul Jongseok Park then delivered congratulatory remarks, stating, “I am honored to celebrate the first opening of the Alaska Korean Senior College in 2026.” He added, “I hope that under the leadership of the 26th President, Kyu-jae Choi, the Senior College will continue to grow and provide enriching and joyful experiences for all participants.”

Also present was 96-year-old Korean War veteran Yong-kwon Kim, who delivered a brief yet powerful message: “Health is the most important thing. I simply wish for everyone to stay healthy.”

Korean Association President Jum-suk Baek also shared her remarks, recalling, “I remember teaching a literature class at the Senior College when it was held at the Salvation Army Church.” She added, “I am reminded of Japanese poet Toyo Shibata, who became a poet at the age of 96. I hope all of you continue to dream and join us regularly. The Korean Association will do its best to support the Senior College.”

The highlight of the day was a short lecture by Pastor Ho-jin Park, which received an enthusiastic response. He noted, “In the Book of Exodus, Moses began his mission at the age of 80,” encouraging seniors by saying, “Think of this as the beginning—now is the time to start and to finish your lives beautifully.” He further added humorously, “If young people look down on you, tell them confidently, ‘Have you ever been old? I’ve been young!’” His remark brought the room into laughter. Following the lecture, a delicious lunch prepared with care by the Senior Association president’s spouse and volunteers was served. Attendees shared warm conversations, catching up on how they had spent the long Alaskan winter. A raffle followed, where participants received a sack of rice, adding to the joy of the occasion.

As the event concluded, participants exchanged farewells, saying, “Let’s meet again next month on the 17th,” and departed with light hearts, marking a successful and meaningful opening day.
