앵커리지, 알래스카 – 봄과 여름이 다가 오면서 앵커리지 전역의 한인 교회 바자 회가 다시 문을 열고 있다. 이 바자회들 은 정통 한식을 경험하는 동시에 지역사 회를 위한 의미 있는 활동을 지원할 수 있는 특별한 기회를 제공하고 있다.

이러한 바자회는 주로 지역 한인 교회들 이 주최하며, 앵커리지에서 많은 사랑을 받아온 전통적인 행사로 자리 잡았다. 가족과 교인, 그리고 지역 주민들이 함 께 모여 직접 만든 음식을 나누고, 문화 를 교류하며, 공동체의 유대감을 나누는 뜻깊은 시간으로 채워진다. 맛있는 음식 제공을 넘어, 교회 프로그램과 지역사회 봉사, 자선 활동을 지원하는 기금 마련 의 역할도 하고 있다.

2026년 바자회 첫 시즌으로 지난 3월 21일 토요일, 앵커리지 제일한인침례교 회에서 열린 첫 바자회가 공식적으로 시 작됐다. 이날 행사에는 한인뿐만 아니라 다양한 지역 주민들이 방문해 가정식으 로만 접할 수 있었던 전통 한식을 맛보 기 위해 많은 발걸음이 이어졌다.

행사장을 찾은 방문객들은 정성스럽게 준비된 다양한 밑반찬으로 가득한 테이 블을 마주했다. 한국 가정식의 깊이와 다양성을 보여주는 자리로, 쫄깃하고 풍 미 가득한 족발과 여러 종류의 신선한 김치가 특히 큰 인기를 끌었다. 이 밖에 도 다양한 반찬들이 풍성하게 준비되어 눈과 입을 모두 즐겁게 했다.

밑반찬뿐만 아니라, 바로 즐길 수 있는 다양한 식사 메뉴도 제공됐다. 대표적인 인기 메뉴 중 하나는 깊고 진한 국물 맛 이 특징인 설렁탕으로, 부드럽고 고소한 맛이 많은 이들의 호평을 받았다. 이 외 에도 각종 찌개류와 불고기 같은 양념 된 요리 와 밑반찬등, 오랜 세대를 거쳐 내려온 한국 전통 음식들이 다양하게 마 련됐다.

한 참석자는 “이 바자회가 특별한 이 유는 음식 하나 하나 집에서 만든 것처 럼 정성이 담겨 있고 전통의 맛이 담겨 져 있기 때문”이라며 “이런 진짜 한 국 음식의 맛은 누군가의 집이 아니면 쉽게 경험하기 어렵다”고 전했다.

특히 일부 한식을 접해보지 못한 앵커리 지 주민들에게 교회 바 자회는 친근하고 접근하기 쉬운 문화 체험의 장이 되고 있다. 일반 식당에서는 쉽게 접할 수 없 는 메뉴들도 소개되어 한국의 일상적인 식문화와 전통을 더욱 깊이 이해할 수 있는 기회를 제공한다.

또한 이러한 행사에서 빼놓을 수 없는 것은 따뜻한 공동체의 분위기다. 교인 들을 중심으로 한 자원봉사자들은 음식 준비부터 배식, 손님 응대까지 정성을 다하며 자신의 문화를 나누고 있다. 행 사장은 대화와 웃음이 끊이지 않고, 좋 은 음식을 함께 나누는 즐거움으로 가 득 찬다.

앞으로 봄과 여름 시즌 동안 앵커리지의 여러 한인 교회에서 이와 같은 바자회가 이어질 예정이다. 주최 측은 지역 주민 들이 적극적으로 참여해 정통 한식을 즐 기는 동시에 지역사회를 위해 중요한 역 할을 하는 단체들을 응원해 주기를 바란 다고 전했다.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — As spring and summer approach, Korean church bazaars across Anchorage are once again opening their doors to the public, offering a unique opportunity to experience authentic Korean cuisine while supporting meaningful community causes.

These bazaars, often hosted by local Korean churches, have become a beloved tradition in Anchorage. They bring together families, church members, and local residents for a day filled with homemade food, cultural exchange, and community connection. Beyond the delicious offerings, the events serve as fundraisers that support church programs, community outreach, and charitable initiatives. The 2026 bazaar season officially kicked off on Saturday, March 21, with a successful event at First Korean Baptist Church of Anchorage, drawing a steady crowd of both Korean and non-Korean attendees eager to enjoy traditional dishes rarely found outside Korean homes.

Visitors were welcomed with tables filled with homemade banchan (Korean side dishes), showcasing the depth and variety of Korean home cooking. Popular items included tender, flavorful pig’s feet (jokbal) and an assortment of freshly prepared kimchis, and much more.

In addition to side dishes, guests enjoyed a wide selection of hearty, ready-to-eat meals. One of the highlights was sullung tang, a rich and comforting ox bone soup known for its milky broth and deep flavor. Other offerings included a variety of Korean stews, marinated meats such as bulgogi, and numerous traditional dishes that reflect generations of Korean culinary heritage.

“These bazaars are special because the food is made with care, just like at home,” one attendee shared. “You don’t often get this kind of authenticity unless you’re in someone’s kitchen.” For many in Anchorage, especially those unfamiliar with Korean cuisine, church bazaars provide an accessible and welcoming introduction. Unlike restaurant menus, these events often feature dishes that are less commonly sold commercially, giving visitors a deeper look into everyday Korean meals and traditions.

Equally important is the sense of community that defines these gatherings. Volunteers, many of whom are church members, dedicate their time to preparing food, serving guests, and sharing their culture. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, often filled with conversation, laughter, and a shared appreciation for good food.

As the season continues, more Korean churches in Anchorage are expected to host similar bazaars throughout the spring and summer months. Organizers encourage the broader community to attend, not only to enjoy authentic Korean cuisine but also to support local organizations that play an important role in Anchorage’s multicultural landscape.
