ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Alaska’s 2026 primary election is nearing completion, with the leading candidates in the races for U.S. Senate, U.S. House and governor remaining largely unchanged as additional absentee and questioned ballots are counted.

The results remain unofficial. Absentee ballots mailed by Election Day can arrive through Friday, Aug. 28, and the state is targeting Monday, Aug. 31, for certification.

Peltola Leads U.S. Senate Race

Former Democratic U.S. Rep. Mary Peltola continues to lead Republican incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan.

As of Aug. 26, Peltola had 76,380 votes, or 48.97%, while Sullivan had 65,545 votes, or 42.02%.

The fourth and final qualifying position remains close. Democrat David Leslie had 1,710 votes, while Republican Gerald Heikes had 1,670, a difference of only 40 votes.

Kreiss-Tomkins Leads Governor Primary

Democrat Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins leads the crowded governor’s race with 22.24%, followed by Democrat Tom Begich with 20.54%.

Republican Bernadette Wilson is third with 10.21%, while former Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson is fourth with 8.17%.

Former Attorney General Treg Taylor remains just outside the top four with 7.37%.

Gov. Mike Dunleavy is term-limited, meaning Alaska will elect a new governor this November.

Begich Leads U.S. House Race

Republican U.S. Rep. Nick Begich III continues to lead Alaska’s U.S. House primary with 45.21%, followed by independent Bill Hill with 32.11%.

Democrat Matt Schultz placed third in the vote count but has withdrawn, affecting which candidates will ultimately advance to November.

Ballot Measure 1 Leads

Ballot Measure 1, which would restore limits on campaign contributions in Alaska state and local elections, continues to receive support from more than 70% of voters in preliminary results.

Alaska’s top-four primary sends the four highest-finishing candidates in each race to the general election, regardless of party.

Final absentee ballots are due Aug. 28, with certification expected Aug. 31.

Alaska’s general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026.

앵커리지, 알래스카 — 알래스카 2026년 예비선거 개표가 막바지에 접어든 가운데, 연방 상원의원과 연방 하원의원, 주지사 선거의 주요 후보 순위는 부재자 투표와 확인 투표가 추가 집계되는 과정에서도 큰 변화 없이 유지되고 있다.

현재 결과는 아직 공식 확정된 것은 아니다. 선거일까지 소인이 찍힌 부재자 투표는 8월 28일 금요일까지 도착할 수 있으며, 주 당국은 8월 31일 월요일 결과 인증을 목표로 하고 있다.

펠톨라, 연방 상원의원 예비선거 선두

메리 펠톨라 전 연방 하원의원이 공화당 현역 댄 설리번 연방 상원의원을 계속 앞서고 있다.

8월 26일 기준 펠톨라는 76,380표, 48.97%를 기록했으며, 설리번은 65,545표, 42.02%를 얻었다.

본선 진출을 위한 4위 경쟁은 여전히 치열하다. 민주당 데이비드 레슬리는 1,710표, 공화당 제럴드 하이크스는 1,670표를 기록해 두 후보의 표 차이는 40표에 불과하다.

크라이스-톰킨스, 주지사 예비선거 선두

민주당 조너선 크라이스-톰킨스 후보가 22.24%로 주지사 예비선거에서 선두를 달리고 있으며, 민주당 톰 베기치 후보가 20.54%로 뒤를 잇고 있다.

공화당 버나뎃 윌슨 후보는 10.21%로 3위, 전 앵커리지 시장 데이브 브론슨은 8.17%로 4위를 기록하고 있다.

전 알래스카 법무장관 트레그 테일러는 7.37%로 4위권 바로 뒤에 머물고 있다.

마이크 던리비 현 주지사는 연임 제한으로 이번 선거에 출마할 수 없어, 알래스카는 오는 11월 새로운 주지사를 선출하게 된다.

베기치, 연방 하원의원 예비선거 선두

공화당 현역 닉 베기치 3세 연방 하원의원은 45.21%로 알래스카 연방 하원의원 예비선거에서 선두를 유지하고 있다.

무소속 빌 힐 후보는 32.11%로 2위를 기록하고 있다.

민주당 맷 슐츠 후보는 득표 순위상 3위를 기록했지만 선거에서 사퇴했으며, 이에 따라 최종적으로 어떤 후보들이 11월 본선에 진출할지에도 영향을 미치게 됐다.

주민발의안 1호 찬성 우세

알래스카 주 및 지방선거의 정치후원금 한도를 복원하는 내용을 담은 주민발의안 1호는 현재 잠정 집계에서 70%가 넘는 찬성표를 얻고 있다.

알래스카의 톱4 예비선거 제도에서는 정당과 관계없이 각 선거에서 가장 많은 표를 얻은 상위 4명의 후보가 본선에 진출한다.

최종 부재자 투표는 8월 28일까지 도착해야 하며, 선거 결과 인증은 8월 31일로 예정돼 있다.

알래스카 본선거는 2026년 11월 3일 화요일 실시된다.
