ANCHORAGE, Alaska — April 17, 2026 — The Anchorage Senior College for local Korean elders was successfully held at the Korean Community Center, bringing together more than 80 seniors for a meaningful day of learning, fellowship, and celebration.

The event opened in a warm and welcoming atmosphere with an opening prayer by Pastor Sungjoo Ham of Open Door Church. One of the highlights of the day was a special longevity award ceremony honoring Ms. Jeongsuk Kim, who celebrated her 100th birthday this year. She was presented with a commemorative certificate and congratulatory flowers, and attendees joined together in celebrating this remarkable milestone. Her bright and joyful presence left a deep impression on everyone in attendance. The educational portion of the program was especially well-received, offering practical information tailored to seniors’ everyday needs. A lecture titled “Tax Filing Guidance for Seniors in Alaska” provided detailed explanations on eligibility, procedures, and important considerations. The session was led by Hyeryeon Jung, an employee of the Department of Labor, who shared real-life examples to help attendees better understand the process. During the Q&A session that followed, participants had the opportunity to ask questions and receive helpful answers, expressing high satisfaction with the valuable information provided.

Pastor Ham later delivered a message titled “Attitudes Toward Aging Found in the Bible.” Drawing from the biblical imagery of the eagle in the Book of Isaiah, he shared a meaningful reflection on aging. He explained that eagles do not soar simply because of their own strength, but by waiting for the wind and allowing it to carry them upward. In the same way, he emphasized that true strength in the later stages of life comes not from one’s own power, but from reliance on God.

He also compared life to a marathon, emphasizing that what matters is not speed, but finishing the race well. Reflecting on figures in the Bible, he noted that their common trait was a life completed faithfully to the end. “The fact that we are still alive means there is still a race left to run,” he said. “I hope that, like the eagle, we may rise with strength by looking to God and finish our lives beautifully.” His message resonated deeply with the audience, who listened with quiet reflection and emotion.

The program continued with a commemorative poem recited by writer Gwisoo Park in honor of Ms. Kim’s 100th birthday, further adding to the warm atmosphere. In his poem, he expressed heartfelt congratulations, saying, “Having gathered ninety-nine stars, you shine even brighter at one hundred. We sincerely celebrate your birthday.” He shared his admiration and love for her life, noting that her constant smile was something he deeply admired, drawing heartfelt applause from the audience.

The event concluded with a shared meal and a raffle drawing. Attendees enjoyed time together over thoughtfully prepared food, while the raffle added excitement and joy to the gathering. Smiles filled the room as seniors received generous prizes, and many left the event feeling uplifted and encouraged.

지난 4월 17일, 앵커리지 한인회관에서 는 지역 어르신들을 위한 노인대학이 성 황리에 개최되었다. 이날 행사에는 80 명이 넘는 어르신들이 참석하여 배움과 교제의 뜻깊은 시간을 함께했다.

행사는 열린문교회 함성주 목사의 개식 기도로 시작되며 따뜻한 분위기 속에서 문을 열었다. 이어 올해로 100세를 맞이 한 김정숙 어르신의 장수상 시상이 진 행되었다. 축하 화환과 상장이 전달되었 고, 참석자 모두가 한마음으로 장수를 축하하며 감동적인 순간을 나누었다. 백 세를 맞이한 어르신의 밝은 모습은 행사 장에 모인 이들에게 깊은 울림과 기쁨 을 전했다.

이날 강의는 실생활에 도움이 되는 내 용으로 구성되어 더욱 큰 호응을 얻었 다. ‘알래스카 노인을 위한 세금 신고 안내’를 주제로 진행된 강의에서는 세 금 신고 대상과 절차, 유의사항 등에 대 해 상세히 안내되었다. 노동청에서 근무 하는 정혜련 씨가 강의를 맡아 실제 사 례 중심으로 설명하였으며, 이어진 질의 응답 시간에서는 어르신들이 평소 궁금 해하던 내용을 직접 묻고 답하는 유익 한 시간이 이어졌다. 참석자들은 실질적 인 정보를 얻을 수 있었다며 높은 만족 도를 보였다.

이어진 시간에는 함성주 목사가 ‘성경 에서 찾아보는 노년의 마음가짐’을 주 제로 말씀을 전했다. 그는 이사야서에 등장하는 독수리의 비유를 통해 노년의 삶에 대한 의미를 깊이 있게 풀어냈다.

독수리는 힘이 강해서 높이 나는 것이 아니라, 바람을 기다렸다가 그 흐름에 몸을 맡겨 하늘로 오르는 존재라는 점 을 강조하며, 인생의 후반기 또한 자신 의 힘이 아닌 하나님을 의지할 때 진정 한 힘을 얻을 수 있다고 전했다.

또한 인생을 마라톤에 비유하며, 중요한 것은 속도가 아니라 끝까지 완주하는 것 임을 강조했다. 성경 속 인물들이 보여 준 공통점 역시 끝까지 아름답게 달려 간 삶에 있다는 점을 짚으며, 남은 인생 을 의미 있게 살아가는 자세를 권면했 다. 그는 “우리가 살아 있다는 것은 아 직도 달려갈 길이 남아 있다는 의미” 라며, “하나님을 바라보는 가운데 독수 리가 날아오르듯 힘 있게, 그리고 끝까 지 아름답게 인생을 완주하길 바란다” 고 전했다. 참석자들은 깊이 있는 메시 지에 공감하며 조용한 감동 속에 귀를 기울였다.

이후 문인 박귀수 씨가 김정숙 어르신의 100세를 기념하는 축시를 낭독해 분위 기를 더욱 따뜻하게 만들었다. 그는 “ 아흔아홉의 별을 얻으시고, 백세에 더 환히 빛나시는 우리 어머니의 생신을 진 심으로 축하드립니다”라고 전하며, 오 랜 세월 가까이에서 지켜본 어르신의 삶 에 대한 존경과 사랑을 담아냈다. 특히 늘 웃음을 잃지 않는 모습이 가장 닮고 싶은 점이라고 고백하며, 진심 어린 축 하의 마음을 전해 큰 박수를 받았다.

행사의 마지막은 함께하는 식사 시간과 경품 추첨으로 이어졌다. 참석자들은 정 성스럽게 준비된 음식을 나누며 서로 교 제하는 시간을 가졌고, 다양한 선물이 마련된 경품 추첨을 통해 즐거움을 더 했다. 푸짐한 선물을 받아든 어르신들의 얼굴에는 웃음이 가득했고, 행사장을 나 서는 발걸음 또한 한결 가벼워 보였다.
