ANCHORAGE, Alaska — NEXGEN, the youth and young adult group of the Korean American Community of Anchorage (KACA), hosted a community social gathering on Friday, May 29, at Sakana Poke & Soirée in Anchorage.

The event brought together young adults from across the community for an evening of networking, cultural activities, food, and civic engagement. The social was designed to strengthen connections among young Korean Americans while encouraging greater involvement in civic engagement. Attendees enjoyed a welcoming atmosphere featuring Korean games, food, music, and opportunities to meet other young professionals and students from across Anchorage.

The evening featured presentations from several community leaders and emerging voices. Lia Vasquez, a member of the University of Alaska Anchorage’s Korean Student Association (KOSA), spoke about the importance of creating spaces where young Korean Americans can build friendships, celebrate their heritage, and become more involved in community leadership.

Arianna Bellizzi of the Federation of Community Councils introduced attendees to Anchorage’s community council system and discussed ways residents can become more engaged in local decision-making. Her presentation highlighted how community councils serve as an important bridge between residents and local government, giving individuals a voice on issues that affect their neighborhoods. Emily Cho of NEXGEN spoke about the organization’s mission to support and empower the next generation of Korean-American leaders in Alaska. She encouraged attendees to continue building connections within the com community while seeking opportunities to serve and lead.

In addition to the presentations, organizers used the event as an opportunity to raise awareness about Alaska’s upcoming 2026 primary elections. Information was shared about voter participation and election dates, emphasizing the importance of civic engagement among younger generations and immigrant communities.

Participants also took part in a Korean trivia competition that tested their knowledge of Korean culture, history, traditions, and modern Korean society. The activity sparked friendly competition and laughter while helping attendees learn more about their cultural heritage.

The event reflected NEXGEN’s ongoing commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for young adults to connect through culture, community, and civic participation. By blending traditional Korean activities with discussions about leadership and local engagement, organizers hope to inspire more young Korean Americans to become active contributors to both the Korean- American community and the broader Anchorage community.

As NEXGEN continues to grow, events like the Community Social demonstrate the organization’s vision of building a stronger, more connected generation of leaders who are proud of their heritage and engaged in shaping the future of Alaska.

알래스카 앵커리지 – 한인회(KACA) 산하 청소년 및 청년 단체인 넥스젠 (NEXGEN)이 지난 5월 29일 금요일, 앵 커리지에 위치한 사카나 포케 앤 소이레 (Sakana Poke & Soirée)에서 커뮤니티 소셜 행사를 개최했다. 이번 행사는 네 트워킹, 문화 활동, 음식, 그리고 시민 참 여를 주제로 지역의 청년 및 청소년들이 한자리에 모이는 뜻깊은 시간이 되었다.

이번 소셜 행사는 한인 청년들 간의 유 대감을 강화하고 시민 참여(Civic Engagement) 에 대한 관심을 높이기 위해 마련되었다. 참석자들은 한국 전통 놀 이, 음식, 음악을 즐기며 앵커리지 지역 의 다양한 학생들과 젊은 전문직 종사 자들을 만나 교류할 수 있는 시간을 가 졌다.

이날 행사에서는 지역사회 리더들과 차 세대 리더들의 발표도 진행되었다. 알 래스카대학교 앵커리지(University of Alaska Anchorage) 한국학생회(KOSA) 소속의 리아 바스케즈(Lia Vasquez)는 한인 청년들이 서로 우정을 쌓고, 자신 의 문화적 정체성을 기념하며, 지역사회 리더십에 더욱 적극적으로 참여할 수 있 는 공간의 중요성에 대해 이야기했다. 연방 커뮤니티 카운슬(Federation of Community Councils)의 아리아나 벨리 치(Arianna Bellizzi)는 앵커리지의 커뮤니 티 카운슬 제도를 소개하며 주민들이 지 역 의사결정 과정에 참여할 수 있는 방 법을 설명했다. 그녀는 커뮤니티 카운슬 이 주민들과 지방정부를 연결하는 중요 한 가교 역할을 하며, 주민들이 자신이 속한 지역사회 문제에 목소리를 낼 수 있도록 돕는다고 강조했다.

넥스젠의 에밀리 조(Emily Cho)는 알래 스카 한인 차세대 리더들을 지원하고 성 장시키기 위한 단체의 비전을 소개했다. 또한 참석자들에게 지역사회 안에서 관 계를 지속적으로 구축하고 봉사와 리더 십의 기회를 적극적으로 찾아 나설 것을 독려했다.

발표와 함께 행사 주최 측은 다가오 는 2026년 알래스카 예비선거(Primary Election)에 대한 인식 제고 활동도 진행 했다. 참석자들에게 투표 참여의 중요성 과 주요 선거 일정을 소개하며, 특히 젊 은 세대와 이민자 커뮤니티의 적극적인 시민 참여가 필요하다는 점을 강조했다. 참석자들은 한국 문화와 역사, 전통, 그 리고 현대 한국 사회에 대한 지식을 겨 루는 한국 퀴즈 게임에도 참여했다. 참 가자들은 즐거운 경쟁과 웃음 속에서 한 국 문화에 대해 더 깊이 배우는 시간을 가졌다.

이번 행사는 문화, 공동체, 그리고 시민 참여를 통해 청년들이 서로 연결될 수 있는 의미 있는 기회를 만들고자 하는 넥스젠의 지속적인 노력을 보여주었다. 전통 한국 문화 활동과 리더십 및 지역 사회 참여에 대한 논의를 결합함으로써, 주최 측은 더 많은 한인 청년들이 한인 사회는 물론 앵커리지 지역사회 전체에 적극적으로 기여하는 리더로 성장하기 를 기대하고 있다.

넥스젠이 계속해서 성장해 나가는 가운 데, 이번 커뮤니티 소셜 행사는 자신의 문화적 뿌리에 자부심을 가지고 알래스 카의 미래를 만들어가는 강하고 연결된 차세대 리더를 육성하겠다는 단체의 비 전을 잘 보여주는 자리였다.
