알래스카대학교 앵커리지(UAA)는 오 늘 UAA 학생회관과 Avis Alaska 스포츠 콤플렉스에서 열정적인 캠퍼스 킥오프 (Campus Kickoff, CKO) 행사를 통해 새 학년을 맞이했다. 8월 23일 오후 2시부 터 5시까지 학생, 교직원, 가족들이 모여 음식과 즐길 거리, 교류의 시간을 나누 며 매년 가을 학기 시작을 알리는 전통 적인 행사를 함께했다.

캠퍼스 킥오프란?

캠퍼스 킥오프는 UAA 학생참여팀(Student Engagement)이 주최하는 대표적인 환영 행사로, 학생 동아리, 대학 부서, 지 역 사회 단체들을 한눈에 만날 수 있는 참여 박람회 형식으로 진행된다. 참석자 들은 무료 식사와 다양한 체험 활동을 즐기며, 첫날부터 활발히 캠퍼스 생활에 참여할 수 있는 기회를 얻는다.

이날 행사는 오후에 열린 동문 배구 경 기로 시작해, 저녁에는 Cuddy Quad에 서 진행된 “The Kickback” 파티로 이 어졌다. 라이브 DJ 공연이 분위기를 더 욱 뜨겁게 달구며 캠퍼스에 활력을 불 어넣었다.

한국 학생회(KOSA)

이번 킥오프 박람회에서 특히 눈길을 끈 부스 중 하나는 **한국 학생회(KOSA, Korean Student Association)였다. UAA 한국 동아리는 “한국의 문화, 언어, 전 통에 대한 이해와 존중을 증진하고, 한 국인과 비한국인 학생 모두가 안전하고 환영받는 환경을 만드는 것”을 사명으 로 내세우며, 포용적인 에너지와 생동감 넘치는 문화적 색깔을 뽐냈다.

한국 동아리는 대학을 더욱 풍요롭게 만 든다. 한국의 전통, 음식, 언어, 음악, 예 술을 경험할 기회를 제공함으로써, 한국 및 한인 학생들이 자신의 뿌리를 기념할 수 있도록 돕는 동시에, 다른 학생들에 게도 배우고 교류할 수 있는 장을 열어 상호 존중과 문화 간 이해를 촉진한다.

이날 행사에서 KOSA는 문화 유물과 한 국 과자를 선보이고, 방문객들에게 다가 오는 모임에 참여해 달라는 따뜻한 초대 인사를 건네며 한국 문화를 맛보고 체험 할 수 있는 기회를 마련했다.

이들의 참여는 킥오프 현장에 글로벌한 분위기를 더하며, UAA의 강점이 다양한 배경과 문화를 지닌 학생들 속에 있음을 다시금 일깨워 주었다.

연결, 문화, 공동체의 하루

UAA 캠퍼스 킥오프는 새로운 시작과 활 발한 참여가 만나는 순간으로 빛을 발하 고 있다. 무료 식사, 다채로운 부스-특히 KOSA의 활약-그리고 생기 넘치는 프로 그램을 통해학생들은 소속감을 찾고, 관 심사를 탐구하며, 시울프(Seawolf) 정신 을 만끽할 수 있었다.

The University of Alaska Anchorage welcomed a fresh academic year on Saturday, August 23rd, with its spirited Campus Kickoff (CKO) at the UAA Student Union and the Avis Alaska Sports Complex. From 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., students, faculty, staff, and families gathered for food, fun, and connection—a vibrant tradition marking the start of campus life each fall

What Is Campus Kickoff?

Campus Kickoff, hosted by UAA’s Student Engagement team, is a flagship welcome event—think of a dynamic involvement fair packed with opportunities to explore student clubs, campus departments, and community partners. Attendees can snag free meals, participate in interactive activities, and ignite their involvement in campus life from day one

The day also unfolded with an Alumni Volleyball match earlier in the afternoon, and set the stage for evening festivities like “The Kickback” in the Cuddy Quad—featuring a live DJ performance to keep the energy soaring through the night

KOSA (Korean Student Association)

Among the many booths that lined the Kickoff fair, one that drew particular attention was the Korean Student Association (KOSA). UAA’s Korean Club—whose mission is “to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Korean culture, language, and traditions” and to create a safe, welcoming environment for both Korean and non‑Korean students—stood out for its inclusive energy and cultural vibrancy

Korean clubs enrich the university. They provide opportunities for students to experience Korean traditions, food, language, music, and art. This not only helps Korean and Korean-American students celebrate their heritage but also invites non-Korean students to learn and engage, fostering mutual respect and cross-cultural understanding. KOSA offered attendees a flavorful taste of Korean heritage—not just metaphorically, but literally—by showcasing cultural artifacts, Korean snacks, and greeting visitors with warm invitations to join upcoming meetings. Their presence helped bring a global spirit to the Kickoff, reminding everyone that UAA’s strength lies in its diverse and culturally rich student body.

A Day of Connection, Culture, and Community

The UAA Campus Kickoff continues to shine as a moment where new beginnings meet energetic engagement. With free meals, vibrant booths—including KOSA’s—and a lively schedule of events, the event provided students with an opportunity to find belonging, explore interests, and embrace the Seawolf spirit.

As the semester officially kicks off on August 25, the energy and excitement from today’s event are sure to ripple across campus.
