첫 경기인 16강에서 상대 선수 잔 코시 르(슬로베니아)가 넘어지면서 8강에 오 른 그는 8강전에서 이번 시즌 월드컵 3 승을 거두며 이 종목 랭킹 1위를 달리 던 45세 롤란드 피슈날러(이탈리아)를 꺾는 이변을 연출했다. 이어 준결승에 서는 테르벨 잠피로프(불가리아)를 0.23 초 차로 따돌리며 최소 은메달을 확보 했고, 결승에서는 카를에게 0.19초 차 로 패해 최종 은메달을 목에 걸었다.

이 종목 메달 후보로 꼽혔던 이상호는 16강에서 안드레아스 프로메거(오스트 리아)에게 0.17초 차로 패해 아쉽게 탈 락했다. 남자부의 조완희(전북스키협회) 는 예선 18위(1분 27초 76), 여자부의 정해림(하이원)은 예선 31위(1분 40초 55)에 머물며 결선 진출에 실패했다.

컬링 믹스더블의 김선영(강릉시청)-정 영석(강원도청)은 코르티나 컬링 올림 픽 스타디움에서 열린 라운드로빈 경기 에서 에스토니아와 캐나다를 차례로 꺾 었다. 7차전에서 에스토니아의 마리에 칼드베-하리 릴을 9-3으로 제압한 데 이어, 캐나다의 조슬린 피터먼-브렛 갤 런트를 9-5로 이기며 5연패 뒤 3연승 을 기록했다. 그러나 이미 5승 이상을 거둔 팀이 4팀이어서 4강 진출에는 실 패했다.

테세로 크로스컨트리 스타디움에서 열 린 크로스컨트리 스키 남자 10㎞＋10 ㎞ 스키애슬론에서는 이준서(경기도청) 가 53분 39초 0의 기록으로 완주해 58 위에 올랐다. 이 종목에서는 요한네스 클레보(노르웨이)가 46분 11초 만에 결 승선을 통과하며 금메달을 차지했다.

클레보는 이번 우승으로 통산 올림픽 금메달을 6개로 늘리며 역대 최다 기록 에 도전하고 있다.

노르웨이는 이날 남자 스피드스케이팅 5,000ｍ에서도 금메달을 추가하며 종 합 순위 선두에 올랐고, 한국은 은메달 1개로 공동 11위를 달리고 있다.

한편 스노보드 여자 빅에어 예선에서 는 유승은(성복고)이 166.5점을 기록해 4위로 결선에 진출했다. 유승은은 한국 여자 선수로는 처음으로 이 종목 결선 에 올라 의미를 더했다. 결선은 10일 오 전 열린다.

Advancing to the quarterfinals after his opponent, Zan Kosir of Slovenia, fell in the round of 16, he then pulled off a major upset in the quarterfinals by defeating 45-year-old Roland Fischnaller of Italy, who had claimed three World Cup victories this season and was ranked No. 1 in the event. In curling mixed doubles, Kim Sun-young of Gangneung City Hall and Jung Young-seok of the Gangwon Provincial Office defeated both Estonia and Canada in round-robin play at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium.

They beat Estonia’s Marie Kaldvee and Harri Lill 9–3 in their seventh match, then followed with a 9–5 victory over Canada’s Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant, recording three straight wins after five consecutive losses.

However, with four teams already reaching at least five wins, the Korean pair failed to advance to the semifinals. At the Tesero Cross-Country Stadium, Lee Jun-seo of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office finished 58th in the men’s 10 km + 10 km skiathlon with a time of 53:39.0. Norway’s Johannes Klæbo won the gold medal, crossing the finish line in 46:11. With the victory, Klæbo increased his career Olympic gold medal total to six and continues his pursuit of the all-time Winter Olympic gold medal record.

Norway also added another gold medal on the day in the men’s 5,000-meter speed skating, maintaining the lead in the overall medal standings, while South Korea, with one silver medal, is tied for 11th place.

Meanwhile, Yoo Seung-eun of Seong-bok High School placed fourth in the women’s snowboard big air qualifiers at Livigno Snow Park with a score of 166.5, advancing to the final. Yoo became the first South Korean female athlete to reach the final in Olympic women’s big air. The final will be held on the morning of the 10th.
