앵커리지, 알래스카 – 2025년 10월 2 일 – 주앵커리지 대한민국 총영사관은 2025년 개천절을 기념하기 위해 앵커 리지 알래스카대학교 웬디 윌리엄슨 강 당(Wendy Williamson Auditorium)에서 성 대한 축하 행사를 개최했다. 이날 행사 에서는 모닝스타 한국문화센터(Morning Star Korean Culture Center)가 선보인 전 통 한국 공연이 관객들의 큰 박수를 받 으며 한인 사회와 알래스카 주민 모두에 게 깊은 감동을 선사했다.

한국의 역사와 예술로 하나 된 무대

이번 행사는 한민족 최초의 국가인 고조 선의 건국(기원전 2333년)을 기념하는 개천절을 축하하는 자리로, 음악과 춤, 그리고 화려한 전통 의상을 통해 한국의 풍부한 역사와 예술을 선보였다. 한국과 알래스카의 문화적 교류를 이어주는 다 리 역할을 하며, 전통과 현대가 공존하 는 특별한 의미를 더했다.

모닝스타 한국문화센터는 한국 전통무 용, 부채춤(부채춤, Buchaechum), 삼고 무(Samgomu) 등 다양한 프로그램을 통 해 한국 문화의 우아함, 강인함, 그리고 리듬감을 생생하게 표현했다. 무용수들 의 역동적인 안무와 화려한 한복은 관객 의 시선을 사로잡았으며, 공연 내내 뜨 거운 박수갈채가 이어졌다.

문화 교류의 중요성 강조한 박중석 총영사

박중석 총영사는 환영사에서 “이번 행 사는 한국과 알래스카 간의 문화 교류를 통해 두 지역 간의 우정을 더욱 돈독히 하는 뜻깊은 자리”라고 전하며, 공연단 과 참석자들에게 감사의 뜻을 전했다.

행사는 한국 문화에 대한 자부심과 따뜻 한 연대의 분위기 속에 마무리되었으며, 참석자 모두에게 전통과 현대가 조화를 이루는 한국 문화의 깊은 아름다움을 다 시금 일깨워 주었다.

알리는 선구자

모닝스타 한국문화센터(Morning Star Korean Culture Center)는 1985년 최지 연(Jiyeon Cheh) 대표에 의해 설립되었 으며, 한국의 전통무용·음악·문화유 산을 교육하고 전파하기 위해 시작되 었다.

센터는 설립 이후 프로그램과 공연 영 역을 지속적으로 확장하며, 현재는 예술 유치원, 도서관, 무용 및 음악 수업 등 을 포함한 다양한 교육 프로그램을 운 영하며 1,000명 이상의 회원이 함께하 고 있다.

모닝스타의 사명은 문화적 이해와 긍정 적인 교류를 촉진하는 것이다. 매년 세 계 여러 나라에서 공연을 펼치며, 전통 무용·음악·한국어 수업을 통해 세대 와 문화를 잇는 역할을 하고 있다.

태평소와 장구의 울림, 태극의 춤사위

모닝스타는 태평소, 북, 징, 가야금 등 다 양한 전통 악기와 함께 생동감 넘치는 공연을 선보이며, 태극의 조화와 생명력 을 담은 독창적 안무로 미국 태평양 북 서부 지역 최고의 한국 문화 공연단체로 자리매김했다.

공연마다 화려한 의상과 완성도 높은 무 대 연출로 관객에게 잊을 수 없는 감동 을 선사하며, “한 번 보면 다시 보고 싶 은 공연”으로 평가받고 있다.

태평양 북서부 최초의 한국 도서관 설립

후원자들의 아낌없는 지원으로 모닝스 타는 2005년 1월 15일, 태평양 북서부 지역 최초의 한국 도서관을 개관했다. 현재는 증가하는 장서와 회원 수요를 충 족하기 위해 도서관을 확장 공사 중이 며, 더 나은 서비스와 공간을 제공하기 위해 꾸준히 발전하고 있다.

Anchorage, AK – October 2, 2025 — The Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Anchorage hosted a spectacular celebration in honor of the 2025 Korean National Foundation Day at the Wendy Williamson Auditorium, University of Alaska Anchorage. The evening featured an inspiring traditional Korean performance by the Morning Star Korean Culture Center, captivating both Korean residents and Alaskan audiences alike.

The event commemorated Gaecheonjeol, Korea’s National Foundation Day, marking the legendary founding of the first Korean kingdom, Gojoseon, in 2333 B.C. The celebration served as a bridge between cultures, highlighting the rich history and artistry of Korea through music, dance, and vibrant traditional attire.

The Morning Star Korean Culture Center delivered a mesmerizing performance that included classical Korean dance, fan dance (buchaechum), and drum performances (samgomu), all expressing the grace, strength, and rhythm of Korean heritage. Their dynamic choreography and colorful hanbok costumes drew thunderous applause from the audience.

In his welcoming remarks, Consul Joongsuk Park emphasized the importance of cultural exchange between Korea and Alaska, expressing gratitude to the performers and attendees for strengthening the friendship between the two communities. The event concluded with an atmosphere of appreciation and pride, reminding all in attendance of the enduring connection between tradition and modern identity.

Morning Star Cultural Center was founded in 1985 under the direction of Jiyeon Cheh with the purpose of teaching Korean dance, music, and heritage to those interested in sharing the Korean culture. Morning Star has continued to expand and diversify its repertoire, programs, and services to the community. Today, with the combination of its art preschool, library, dance, and music classes, Morning Star serves over 1,000 members of all ages.

Their mission is to promote cultural appreciation and encourage positive cultural exchange. In addition to global performance opportunities throughout the year, Morning Star Cultural Center offers traditional dance, music, and language classes.

Our dynamic performances, accompanied by a variety of drums, gongs, zithers, a colorful array of costumes, and original choreography, always guarantee a lasting and memorable experience. Through the generous support of donors, Morning Star opened the first Korean library in the Pacific Northwest on January 15, 2005. To accommodate the growing number of books and offer better services to our members, the library is currently under construction.
